The Warped Come Hunting

The Warped Come Hunting is a dark, gruesome tale as old as the beginning of the Fall. People began telling the tale to children as a way to help them understand the dangers of the warped that roam the Hellisdalr Lands; the tale is especially popular in Kvia, the capital of the Hellisdalr Lands.

Summary

The story often begins with a little brother and sister ignoring the warnings of their parents and sneaking outside the fences to play in the streets. During this time, the streets are fairly clear, with a few groans and moans from the warped echoing in the distance. The children continue playing, growing louder and bolder the longer time draws on.   As they play, they don't notice the warped drawing closer until the sister is grabbed and she screams, alerting the adults to the kids being outside the fence. The brother runs, unable to save his sister. In the end, he is rescued and brought inside, but not before witnessing the warped eating his sister alive.

Historical Basis

  • The day Kvia fell is when all of this happened. Sure, other civilizations fell before Kvia, but the news had yet to reach Kvia due to how many people were being slaughtered.
  • The warped began to rise and started eating the living. Children were more susceptible due to their naivety.
  • The tale usually is told about werewolf children, but sometimes elves and khainae are substituted.

Spread

The tale spread throughout the remaining settlements of the Hellisdalr Lands. Other lands, like the Futrya Empire and the Asmya Kingdom, don't know about the warped since communication was lost with the Hellisdalr Lands. Uskaria Theocracy has knowledge of the tale, but they treat it with mockery.

Variations & Mutation

Different versions of the story are told depending on where someone heard the story. The further away they are from Kvia, the more the story has vastly changed. The age of the child is also an important factor; some versions are darker while other contains a lighter atmosphere, but still dark enough to scare the children into being cautious around the warped.

In Art

The tale has been retold in various forms of art, such as a story to be told orally, but some people teach it to children in the form of a nursery song or perhaps a picture show with various drawings of the story and an oral retelling to help give visual aid to the children.
