WELCOME ONE AND ALL TO THE

EPIC CHARACTER CHALLENGE!!!

Fifth Ever Novel Competition

If you're looking for creative prompts, crazy roleplay, and CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, you've certainly come to the right place!   ...so...what the heck is this 'challenge'???   For the last few years, I have hosted an interesting challenge that gathers authors from all walks of life to throw their characters into a fun, explorative challenge to help writers dive deeper into the minds of their characters through story prompts, situations, and games that help flesh out character traits. Participants can sign up with their original characters from anything from a novel, book, short story, series, RPG, videogame, etc. but it could also just be a figment of the author's imagination without necessarily being attached to anything in particular.   Check out this article for a brief overview of the challenge   Check out previous years

About This Year's Challenge

Tentatively scheduled to begin on Monday, May 20, 2024 and run for SIX weeks

first clue being revealed on Sunday, May 19, 2024

Each participant may enter UP TO THREE characters each to form a team! Any characters entered must be your own original creation. The characters chosen don't have to come from the same body of work. They can come from different fictional universes if you so desire, but please keep in mind that this may make things more difficult to keep track of when challenges arise.
If you only want to enter one character, feel free!
Author Melissa de la Cruz might enter Mal, Daughter of Maleficent, even though the characters were somewhat developed from a fanfic of sorts.

Feeling fun? Enter two characters!
Videogame creator Satoshi Tajiri may enter Ash Ketchum and Pikachu[, both from the same body of work.

Wanna really shake things up? Throw three characters in there!
Author Charles Dickens could enter Oliver Twist, Ebenezer Scrooge, and Nicholas Nickleby, even though they are not from the same bodies of work.

BUT, NO MORE THAN THAT!

Sound Interesting???

Let's answer a few more of your questions, shall we?
  What do I need?
Firstly, you must have at least one character; any human, alien, monster, robot, animal, or other being for that matter who can at least move, communicate, and have somewhat of a personality. They can be a hero, a villain, or a neutral character. Any age. Genre doesn’t matter. Your character can come from any setting; sci-fi, fantasy, realistic, historical, horror, children’s, YA, action, drama, educational, romance, none or all of the above! The story form doesn’t matter either. Whether your character is from a comic, a picture book, a novel, a verbal folktale, a movie, a show, a game, or even a stage play it can be counted (so long as the entrant is your own truthful and original creation).   Secondly, it would help if you had a profile picture for your character. Either you can draw/model them, or you can have somebody else do it (I am going to see if I can do it some and also try to draft some other artists to volunteer because I’m really busy lol) You can also use google images or clipart, or avatar creator sites too (I’ve posted a few below)   www.thispersondoesnotexist.com is a strange (and a tad bit creepy) site that auto-generates a new image every time you reload the page. These images look like real people, but, as the site mentions, none of these persons exist in real life! It splices pics of real humans together with various randomized elements. AI is super crazy!   www.artbreeder.com makes you create an account. I haven’t personally done much with it, but other writing sites suggest this (and the examples look pretty neat).   Dress up games, doll makers and character creators with the avatar-maker tag. meiker.io has a whole lot of different kind of makers from elves, to kids, to adults, to humans and animals. Even anime and all kinds of different styles. It appears that users are able to design and publish their own creator tools on here, so I’m sure you should be able to find a good maker to customize your character with!   www.heroforge.com lets you paint, change poses, add weapons, and everything else. You may see that it seems only to be a fantasy thing, but there are lots of modern outfits, props, and gear including guns, motorcycles, and more! This is meant to make and order your own custom miniature D&D game piece, but you can use screenshots to make this the profile pic of your character!
What Kinds of Challenges Will Arise?
Your character(s) will go through everything from party games (think Two Truths and a Lie, Never Have I Ever, Truth or Dare) to school days (think short essays, field day, pop quiz) to daunting scenarios and Battle Arenas to test their true strengths. Throw some Mystery Mayhem into the mix along with several other PLOT TWISTs along the way, and we’ll be learning about each character’s personality in no time! (don’t worry folks. we’re keeping it pg-13! so if some of your characters are children, they won’t be left out.)
  What Will This Gameshow Accomplish?
After this Novel Competition, no matter where you rank, everyone should be able to walk away thinking in their everyday life “that’s something so-and-so would do!” or, “wow, that’s whateverhisnameis’s favorite food!” or, “if whatsherface was here, she would never tolerate such nonsense.”
  Character? I Need Inspiration!
Want some examples? Here are a few characters of various species and ages with well-known personalities spanning across all genres and story forms:   Sonic The Hedgehog Belle (from Beauty and the Beast) Gaston (from Beauty and the Beast) Alice (in Wonderland) The Mad Hatter Willy Wonka Arthur (from the books and television series by Marc Brown) Loki Thor Peter Pan Tinker Bell Tigger the Tiger (from Winnie the Pooh) Eeyore (from Winnie the Pooh) The Seven Dwarves (each of their names are self-explanatory  )   When you think of these guys, certain words come to mind. Some are tricky and cunning, some are curious and sweet, some are arrogant and boastful, some are shy, some are sassy, and some are just flat out crazy. Some are energetic while others are sluggish. Some have a smart brain while others have a smart mouth. Usually, across the movies, books, shows etc. in which they appear, no matter which writer, animation style, or actors portray them, their personality is typically consistent. No matter what, remember this: characters aren’t characters unless they have some character!

For the last couple of years, I've been theming the event. This year, the theme is:

LOST, FOUND, and BOUND!!!

You can take this into consideration when choosing your character(s) OR NOT! This doesn't mean it will be all about being stranded on an island or held captive by prisoners lol, but, however this theme inspires you, have at it! If you pick a character or crew that in no way relates to the theme, not to worry! Your character(s) will still have a wonderful part to play in our epic show.

Hi! This is Tesariel, my username is different on world anvil.   Character Name: Elyerin Kairos   Most significant trait:He is distrusting of others since he believes anyone could be a criminal. This is a bit ironic however, as other people have reasons to distrust him.   Work they’re from: An untitled mythic fantasy series (involving shapeshifters, gods, and fairies), his series is from the fair folk part of the world. The first book in that series is titled The Mystery of the Body Thief. He’s also from a short story collection that I am currently working on. (Involving that part of the fantasy world).   Genre of said work: Mythic Fantasy | Murder mystery with some Gothic elements.   Brief bio: Elyerin Kairos is a Dullahan (which in the Sídhe’s land serves the same function as law enforcement). He is devoted to the god of time and receives additional magic from that god. The reason the god chose to give Elyerin magic is that death and time are interlinked with one another: the steady moving of time will eventually bring death to everyone.   Elyerin’s job is to capture and interrogate criminals (whether they be human or Sídhe) and restore the natural order when it is put out of balance. He may seem approachable when you first meet him (albeit with something seeming slightly off about him), but if you’re a criminal he can appear very intimidating— he can take off his head and, if it is necessary, will chase after you in a chariot.   In his personal life, Elyerin takes care of a human child (Marigold), whom he believes he “saved.” A Dullahan taking care of a human child is a very uncommon occurrence and is frowned upon in Sídhe society. Due to that, he has strained relationships with other Sídhe in his social circles.   Appearance: Auburn hair, blue eyes, and wears overall nature based clothes (including a vine wrapping around his neck).   -------   Name: Genevieve   Most significant trait: She is thoughtful, and sometimes is prone to overthinking.   Work They're From: The second book in the Dorian Gray trilogy series. (Though I also plan to write a short story or two about her, and ECC might be the perfect place to begin writing those 😉).     Genres of said work: The series isn’t a retelling, it has new plots with the three characters: Dorian, Basil, and Henry, and has them interacting with new characters. It takes place also in an alternate universe where Dorian ran away after the murder. The genre it tends to lean towards is literary fiction— veering in some ways towards realism, other times towards fantasy. But it tends to be in more than one genre, and at times is experimental with style.   Brief Bio:   Genevieve is not a character from Wilde’s original novel. She was created by me, and she plays an important role (as a mother figure) in book two of my Dorian Gray trilogy.   Genevieve is an upper-class woman from Victorian England. She devotes her time to taking care of her (at present) newborn son.   In her spare time she enjoys reading (She enjoys the works of George Eliot, and her favorite Shakespeare play is, Much Ado About Nothing .) She has her own personal goals that she wants to accomplish, some of them have been pushed aside since she got married and gave birth to her son. However, she hopes that she can get back into doing them and have a balance between her life as a mother, and her own desires. Regarding her opinions on magic. Magic is present but hidden in her world, but she doesn’t believe in it, despite the fact she has had a few close encounters with it, without truly knowing what she witnessed.   Appearance: haven't quite figured out her appearance, but I will likely post a drawing of her later.   ----   Name: Medea   Most significant trait: Her creativity, though she feels self-conscious about the craft she is doing.   Work They're From: The second book in the Dorian Gray trilogy series., though I also intend for her to have her own spin off solo story. Brief Bio:   Medea is also not a character from Wilde’s original novel. She was created by me and plays an important (but mysterious) role in book two of my Dorian Gray trilogy.   Medea is a magical artist, her skill is that of embroidery and weaving, she calls herself a “weaver of magic.” How she received the magic is unknown, as she has been quiet about it. But she will surely reveal it when the time is right.   There is a suspicion that the other characters have, that she might have ulterior motives given her sudden appearance during a time of (non-art related) magic chaos. But she is one of the few known (to the main characters at least) magical people who have an ability linked to art. In appearance Medea is like the women in Pre-Raphaelite paintings, there is something ethereal and delicate about her.   She wants to create a society of magical people, however most people ignore magic, so fantastical people go unnoticed and remain secretive within the world. Unfortunately, the goal of creating a magic society is rather unachievable. She also dislikes nonmagical people (despite starting as one herself), but she would never admit it if asked.   Appearance:   I don't know exactly what she looks like yet, but she looks as if she just stepped out of a Pre-Raphaelite painting, so that could mean a number of things, but for now this is what I am inspired by: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fc/Windswept_by_John_William_Waterhouse.jpg

I'm A.J. Karian aka The Mysterious AK (and master of the sparkly ninjas). This time around, I'm gonna bring in Hildreth Mayhew, one of my vampire hunters from my current WIP. In-story, he's about 34-35 years old, but I might be bringing in his 16 year-old self.   Character Name: Hildreth Mayhew   Most significant trait:     He is a light-hearted goofball, who always appreciates a good meal, especially if it's something completely weird and "What the heck is that even?" That said, he isn't all fluff. He is capable of being jealous. He can be stubborn. And he has a mutual hate-hate relationship with Ambrose Smith, a vampire. Lock the two of them in a room for 45 minutes, not even a full hour, and Ambrose will invariably start something that will push Hildreth's buttons.     Appearance:     He's at least 6 feet tall with light brown hair and green-blue eyes, an easy smile, and a ready laugh. Dresses casual. Carries his Bossman 550 on his back. Wears wrist gauntlets with slots for stakes to go into, so he always has them close to his hands when he's fighting. He has scars on his body from various vampire fights.   Work they’re from:     My ongoing Ambrose and Elsie story. It takes place in modern times in an alternate Earth. No covid. The world is populated with humans and extraordinaries----vampires, werewolves, earth giants, fairy cats, fey, and more. Most extraordinaries have human forms, so they can blend in easily with the human population. Others are what they are. Vampire hunters are given charge over their own individual cities, to protect and to keep the vampires from completely taking it over. Their job isn't about complete annihilation. It's about balance. It's about knowing when to strike and when to hold back.   Brief bio:     Hildreth Mayhew is a human. No magical powers at all, but he is a very strong and capable fighter. His weapon of choice is an automated crossbow kind of weapon---the Bossman 550. He was trained from a very young age to be a vampire hunter. He has known tragedy and loss.   He met and fell in love with Elsie Vansing, another vampire hunter. He loves how fierce and strong she is. He also loves hunting vampires with her. They had a couple of rough spots in their courtship, courtesy of Ambrose Smith, but they are currently very happy together.

Hi, all! I'm pinecone on Discord and super excited to join up with my lil guys :) edit: omg this formatting was atrocious   Character Name: Amethyst Dalziel (31, he/him)   Most Significant Trait: His family's obscene wealth and influence have largely sheltered him from any sort of consequences in life, and often doesn't realize just how different he is from most other people. He's charming and friendly, if a little out-of-touch.   Work(s) From Which They Are Taken: Sanctum of the Deathless and WorkingTitle   Genre: Urban high fantasy   Brief Bio: Anyone who frequently glances at the convenience store tabloids knows the name Amethyst Dalziel, the gambling playboy pyromancer with a passion for fast carriages, fine clothing, and the occasional pixie drops bender. Few have actually gotten to know him as the world-weary aging celebrity, ground down by his mother's business ambitions, a lifetime of living in his older brother's shadow, and a billion eyes criticizing his every decision. He's tired of being regarded as the worthless black sheep of the family, but the family fortune and his own assets keep them entangled in their schemes. As the owner and manager of the Crown and Chalice casino in Third District, he's no stranger to luxury and business, navigating shady, high-end business deals as if he was born for it (he was). Amethyst sees no issue in lying, cheating, and stealing to advance his own agenda. This has made him a natural fit as Siren's highest ranking lieutenant and favorite boyfriend. She's the only person who has seen the genuine Amethyst and loved him no less for it, so despite all his constant philandering, he's unendingly loyal to his treasured vampire-assassin girlfriend.   Brief Description: Amethyst is a tall, lanky purple devilkin with antelope horns and a tufted tail. He's a stylish, flamboyant dresser, usually found in fine jewelry, designer dress shirts, and jeans. The sharp tailoring seems at odds with his casual, easygoing nature.       Character Name: Jack Fitzgerald (age 22, they/them)   Most Significant Trait: They're at their happiest when elbow-deep in a motorcarriage engine.   Work(s) From Which They Are Taken: WorkingTitle   Genre(s) of Said Work(s): Urban high fantasy   Brief Bio: Jack always knew what they wanted out of life: to grow up, ace guild school, get an apprenticeship, and open their own garage, in that order. But life doesn't always go as people plan. Their dad is a safety inspector for multiple factories, so they grew up learning by osmosis learning everything there is to know about anything engineering. However, they proved to be a restless, hands-on learner, and their poor performance in school barely landed them a bottom-of-the-barrel apprenticeship at Northway Mystic and Mechanic, where they were unappreciated by Crowley Northway, known for being the head of the Interdimensional Communications Project. Things went even further sideways (during the course of my WIP) until Jack found themself shut out of their guild entirely, and stuck working for Siren as her ...mechanic? ...getaway driver? ...weird roommate that gets treated as something halfway between a friend and a pet? It's a weird arrangement, for sure- and one they're not entirely content with- but they see it as their last opportunity to do the work that they love, and they're determined not to mess this up.   Brief Description: Jack is a young human with warm, amber skin and curly brown hair. Like most of the engineers from the ZEC, they tend to wear practical clothes in bright, bold colors, accessorized with a tool belt, steel-toed boots, and blue coolant stains. They're rarely ever seen without their rust-orange newsboy cap.

Hi everyone, I'm Eliyah (same name on discord) and this is my first time on WorldAnvil! (but not my first time in the competition. This time around I'll be fielding two characters that are in some ways polar opposites:   Character Name: Look   Most Significant Trait: Look tends to be extremely anxious and high strung with a low self-esteem, often considering himself a monster. His greatest fear is biting someone.   Work(s) From Which They Are Taken: Symaithia, although Look has been orphaned from the project for quite some time.   Genre(s): Dark Fantasy   Brief Bio: Look grew up in an isolated village with his siblings and extremely superstitious mother. Among the many things she taught him to fear, werewolves were on the top of the list. Along with his younger sister, Yisydu, there was nothing that Look could do to gain his mother's (or village's) favor, eventually being sent out on a mission to find a path to the outside. While the mission proved to be successful, it only proved so after a werewolf attack that left both Look and Yisydu transformed--his sister somehow coming back from death and himself now a werewolf, although one that can't transform back. With seemingly nowhere to go, the two of them let themselves be taken under the wing of an eccentric creature, Fogonianoge, who claims to be the same thing as Yisydu and able to at least give Look his voice back.   Brief Description (I have an image, but don't know how to post it in this reply): Look appears similar to a normal or manned wolf, but with proportions slightly off and significantly larger. (Around the size of a pony) He has white and silver fur that swirls to make scroll like patterns.   Character Name: Boreo   Most Significant Trait: Boreo is a master at self-sabotage and will do anything to make sure he remains in miserable self circumstances. He is also a werewolf magnet.   Work(s) From Which They Are Taken: False Wolves   Genres(s) of Said Work(s): Dark Urban Fantasy   Brief Bio: Boreo grew up in the woods. He liked the woods. His parents were also werewolves and that was about the only thing he wanted to be despite the constant stream of doctors his parents brought to him, only stopping after a particularly unpleasant accident. In accepting that Boreo would not see the family curse as, well, a curse, his parents allowed him to meet other werewolf children in the area, eventually leading to the formation of his first friend group which lasted (as far as he was concerned) up to the point when they were supposed to start transforming and he didn't. (He ignores the repeated letters) After his parents death, Boreo 'escaped' to the city, where he's so far managed to bump into more werewolves. (And a Bard!)   Brief Description: Why would you want to describe such a sad lump? Please! Look the other way.

Hey all! SwallowtailedTrinket from Discord here! I've got two characters so far, and I want to add a third, but I'm stuck between a few different options, so I guess character three will be added a little later XD   -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~   Character's Name: Ira of Mere's Kin   Most Significant Trait: Having been bed-ridden most of her childhood, she wants to take every advantage to get out there and do and see things.   Work from Which They are Taken: 'Speak Metal'   Genre of Said Work: Science Fantasy   Brief Bio: Ira received a heart transplant from one of Hillhaven's metal gods when she was eight, making her unique in that she can hear both human speech and the telepathic-like auras of the city's various AI systems the denizens of Hillhaven revere as gods. Being something in between the two, Ira's treated as something approaching god-like herself, which usually only makes her feel super awkward, so she hides her metal parts in public.   She's gotten into parkour, finding the rooftops a far more interesting way to get around, and it's less likely she be recognized and have to deal with distracting bows and honorifics. Recently she's been admitted to a school that trains defense forces for the city, and is excited as the high priest is letting her go under the guise of being just a normal student with only a couple of the faculty aware of her true nature. Finally she'll get to be just a normal kid again...or so she thinks...   -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~   Character Name: Menura Inkhold   Most Significant Trait: Petty stubbornness. You thought banishing her to the mountains to learn a lesson was actually going to work? HAHAHA! Jokes on you! Banishment has only made her stronger out of pure spite if nothing else :P   Work from Which They are Taken: Paper Wings (retelling of The Seven Swans/similar fairytales, with the witch/evil step-mother character--guess who--as the co-protagonist)   Genre of Said Work: Fantasy with some heist antics   Brief Bio: Banished to the wilds for "personally offending the mage's council" (her words), Menura was surprised when a single-father of eight wound up on her doorstep with a letter from the council promising her freedom if she could protect the family until the right time. The following marriage to the man was really more for convenience--stopped the neighbors from talking and the children from asking too many questions. Everything was going well...for awhile, until someone finally hunted the family down. And still being bound to her place of banishment, Menura had to get...creative to protect her step-children. They aren't thrilled about her methods, BUT she's technically still keeping her end of the bargain and she hopes it's bought her some time to find a more permanent means to protect the children she's totally-not-fond-of-in-the-least.

Annnd here we go again~! ^3^ (Fun fact: this is my first year entering a character who isn't from Soul Devs! Let's see how that turns out...)   Character Name: Theo (Itera X-21)   Most Significant Trait: Quietly maverick   Work(s) From Which They Are Taken: Soul Devs (via Sharp's backstory)   Genre(s) of Said Work(s): Middle grade science fiction   Brief Bio: Theo is a 21 milos* old Variant who works as a Scholar, a person who studies the human soul. Growing up he was under pressure to "act good" and keep up appearances to ward off the stigma attached to the X family for past crimes. He found ways to rebel but also to prove himself, including successfully programming a virtual soul at the age of 14 with the help of a team. However, he is no longer close to most of his teammates.   Profile Pic of Each Entrant:
Theo (Itera X-21) by Angela He
Character Name: Itera X-22   Most Significant Trait: Energetic and inventive   Work(s) From Which They Are Taken: Soul Devs   Genre(s) of Said Work(s): Middle grade science fiction   Brief Bio: X-22 (X for short) is a 5 milos* old Variant boy and Theo's younger brother. He's lived a mostly happy life so far, as the stigma against the X family has finally begun to fade. However, X-22 still notices it, and still faces the same pressure and scrutiny from his older family members. It's okay though, because Theo is there to protect him... for now.   Profile Pic of Each Entrant:
Itera X-22 by mewdokas
*1 milos = 1000 Earth years. However, as Variants age much slower than humans, they are still physically and mentally 21 and 5.   Character Name: Mindy Evans   Most Significant Trait: Perpetually annoyed   Work(s) From Which They Are Taken: Fourth Wall Clinic   Genre(s) of Said Work(s): Interactive fiction   Brief Bio: Mindy is a 24-year-old woman who despite having superpowers (telekinesis, flying/levitation and creating/shooting purple energy with her hands) lives a fairly normal life. Or at least she did before the Narrator showed up. Ever since she heard the disembodied voice four months ago, he's been narrating her life and influencing the people and events around her, all in the name of getting Mindy to defeat her city's local supervillain. She's not interested in being the hero of this storyline, and is determined to dodge every plot hook Narrator throws her way (much to his chagrin).

I'm Metis Rose everywhere. Seen a Metis Rose somewhere else probably me lol. Anyway last year I did the Ladies of Shaed so this year it seemed fair to do the Gentlemen of Shaed.   Work(s) From Which They Are Taken: Shadows Rising   Genre of Said Work: Fantasy   ********** Character Name: Prince Nicolas Alexander Christopher D'Jurl   Most Significant Trait: His stubbornness which borders on foolhardiness, but also reflects his unwavering dedication to what he believes is right.   Brief Bio: Son of Emperor Christopher D'Jurl and Princess Alexandria he is the rightful King of the Human Freehold. Following a major tragedy and later his own father's death Nick is the only living heir to the throne. He is trying to take his place as King by removing the Queen Regent Vanessa, though that is easier said than done as she wants to keep the throne for herself. He is a skilled fighter and loyal to his friends. Currently Captain of the Silver Guard, an elite special operations team.   *********** Character Name: Lieutenant Marcus Octavian   Most Significant Trait: Marcus is often seen as lazy, laid back and a generally chill guy who doesn't care for much beyond his own entertainment. Which is exactly what he wants.   Brief Bio: Marcus was born on the very southern edge of the Human Freehold near the border with the Fae Kingdom. He came from nothing. No wealth, no prestige, no significance. Marcus trained hard and worked harder though to rise the ranks eventually making it all the way to the Silver Guard. He is very skilled in hand to hand and melee combat, but his skill with a bow is unmatched. He also hides a very shrewd and strategic mind. He was set to become Captain of the Silver Guard until Queen Vanessa gave the title to Nick in an attempt to keep him away from the throne despite his inexperience.   *********** Character Name: Cody   Most Significant Trait: Cody is extremely shy and cautious as his experiences have made him wary of others, but for those who treat him well and earn his trust he is the single most devoted companion you could ask for.   Brief Bio: Cody is a wolf beast abandoned by his pack at a very young age Cody soon found himself adrift in the Human Freehold where he was bought and sold like an animal. First to a mining company and second to a wealthy merchant. Thankfully he also met Nick who rescued him, took him in, and treated him like a little brother. He is frequently at Nick's side (often in wolf form) and is unquestioningly loyal to him.

Hey all! I'm Jyliet. First time competitor and just joined the discord (thhpii/@house/@jyliet xe/xem). These are my favorite favorite characters to write. :)   —————————————   character name: Theodore "Astral" Parsons   most significant trait: He's got a god complex and, unfortunately, has some of the skills to back it up. Stubborn, visionary, hedonistic, and dramatic.   works from which he's taken: my novella + roleplay character   genre of said work: science fantasy with horror elements; alternate 1969 California where everyone manifests magic in a unique way and also aliens want to take over the world   brief bio: Astral is a talented magician who's always been prone to casting fireballs and healing self-inflicted wounds. He grew up as the darling son with three older sisters. If it weren't for their financial generosity, he never would have been able to pay for graduate school (where he got expelled) or own a house in the middle of the woods near Pasadena. After a near-death experience in his mid-20s, he discovered that he has the soul of an alien and that it is his job to prepare the world for the rest of his species to arrive on planet Earth. Part of that preparation includes gathering followers who believe in him. In exchange, he teaches them magic. Together, Astral and his followers live in a commune in the woods in southern California. They grow fruit and vegetables, have some pigs and chickens, and a horse named Nut (after the Egyptian goddess). In the big house on the commune, they perform wild magic rituals in the basement. Occasionally, he goes back into town to barter oranges and zucchini with frustrated grocery store cashiers while secretly trying to find vulnerable people who might want a place to stay for a while.   Georgie is one of his cult members. He stole her from a park bench when she got locked out of her family home. Astral cares for her deeply, more deeply than he generally prefers, but he never imagined her to be a threat to him. He believes her to be magically ineffectual, but after an, uh, altercation with her after she gets Teresa, his wife, pregnant, they discover she's a necromancer, which is part of a different magic system than the one Astral and the rest of the cult employ. He's not happy about it, but now he's afraid of her accidentally killing him.   profile pic: it's not so much a profile pic, but this is my favorite art I've commissioned of him by LOVEWORMZ: https://zpires.com/worlds/ocs/astral/gallery/28546257_GfAzCnEKBUCfS6D.jpg   —————————————   character name: Georgie Palmer   most significant trait: No thoughts, head empty, heart full. Pathetically optimistic even in the worst times. Energetic, affectionate, and easily persuaded.   works from which they're taken: same as Astral   genre of said work: same as Astral   brief bio: Georgie had a rough childhood as a strange and gender non-conforming child, and it culminated with her father locking her out of the house for good when she was a teenager. Not sure where she'd go or what she'd do next, she ended up in a park and met Astral, who promised her an accepting community and the ability to perform magic. How could she say no? When she gets there, she experiences love at first sight with the most beautiful woman she's ever seen, but that turns out to be Astral's future wife. Her crush only deepens as the years go by, ones full of Astral's teachings, and she grows into a confident, capable, and happy woman... completely dependent on the cult. But she doesn't think of it that way. She owes Astral her life! She's just happy to be there! Especially when it turns out she's not very good at magic. Everyone can do a little magic in this world with a little help, even she can make sparks in the air or maybe move the salt shaker closer to her hand, but she has to sit out of major rituals.   One day, love proves to be too overwhelming, and she ends up getting Teresa pregnant. When Astral finds out, some things happen and Georgie... explodes Nut the horse. With her mind. And then puts her back together, reviving Nut from her temporary death. All she can do is apologize and beg for Astral's mercy, which he ends up giving, very very reluctantly.   profile pic: I don't have an equivalent pic of Georgie to the one I have of Astral, but I love this picture of a slightly younger version of her in an alternate timeline in the 1990s created by bwapple: https://zpires.com/worlds/ocs/georgie/gallery/41215887_DSzhoXOCsRkC0TP-min.png In her regular universe, her hair's a little longer and her clothes are a little more wacky 60s than wacky 90s, but that's Georgie. :)   —————————————   character name: Teresa Parsons née Francis   most significant trait: Wild bipolar artist with exceptional magical ability. The maternal prophetess to Astral's god. Sensitive, explosive, spiritual, and headstrong.   works from which they're taken: same as Astral   genre of said work: same as Astral   brief bio: Teresa grew up with parents who were scared of her. As a baby, she began to manifest powerful pyrokinesis and burned down two of their houses before she reached kindergarten. She began experiencing "hallucinations" of alien gods communicating with her when she was 12 years old, and she channeled these messages into paintings and other artworks. When she expressed the desire to leave home and pursue her fortune in life at age 15, her parents let her go without a second glance, not even bothering to scan the papers to see if a teenage girl had destroyed any buildings with fire. She hopped from friend to friend and wound up in a bad crowd. Astral found her at age 18 at a party and, after learning about her magical abilities, demonstrated his own pyrokinesis. They were soulmates, they decided, and Teresa went to live with Astral and his growing cult in the woods. After her first night of performing magic with Astral, they learned that she, too, has the soul of an alien, and it was her job to bring forth a generation of alien-human children to inherit the world controlled by the alien species. Truly, soulmates. They declared themselves married shortly after, and she became his star magical pupil.   Georgie wears her heart on her sleeve, so her blooming love for Teresa became increasingly obvious. Astral turned a blind eye to the fact that the love was equally obviously reciprocated. As long as the two of them were quiet about their affair, it didn't matter, but Georgie went too far when Teresa became pregnant. The first child Teresa bore was supposed to be Astral's. The alien-human hybrid thing, y'know? Astral didn't take it well, and his relationship with Teresa is now on rocky terms, to say the least, after his terrible reaction. They're soulmates, always, but that didn't mean they couldn't be furious with each other.   Everyone's a little worried that their commune is going to burn to the ground.   profile pic: https://64.media.tumblr.com/db494ea70ed2fc32b6cc454029b9a864/4aeb1950a3a2875a-c0/s1280x1920/886729262feda34c0858fd812663dc3c53e8e193.jpg this is my absolute favorite pic of Teresa. About to go alien!

So character development aye... well, I do have a character that I am supposed to know, but really don't... actually I don't know any of the characters from this world all that well, choices, choices. Okay, maybe I'll try 2 characters and see how we go? They do need to interact in my story so this could work out well <3   _______________     Character Name: Cody     Most Significant Trait: Awkward Teenager     Work From Which They Are Taken: Collecting Foundations (my Visual Novel to teach maths)     Genres of Said Work: Fantasy / YA / Educational     Brief Bio: Cody is a teenager that got yeeted from Earth to Realm-R in order to deliver a message. The portal behind him blew up and so he has to work with characters from Realm-R to find materials to fix the portal in order to go home. And then there is the whole fight with a dragon ... or choose to join the dragon to take over Earth (the reason for the initial message was to warn to prepare against this). As an Earth person entering Realm-R he is known as a Traveller. Cody himself is 16, a typical Aussie kid in year 10 at school, and was planning to have a week of work experience with his Uncle at his Opal Mine. He is a tall and lanky teenager, with the awkwardness to match... That's about all I got so far... Profile Pic:   ------------------------------------------   Character Name: Kirsec     Most Significant Trait: Gruff     Work From Which They Are Taken: Collecting Foundations (my Visual Novel to teach maths)     Genres of Said Work: Fantasy / YA / Educational     Brief Bio: Kirsec is a fit old man, General of the Lakamhaan Soldiers primarily tasked with keeping the dragon prisoner. Kirsec is a Lakamhaan (a people whose ancestors came from Earth, Ancient Maya, but were 'forcibly evolved' in order to survive in the world) and is just over 600 years old. He is constantly trying to step down as General, but the ones under him 'aren't ready yet' and the King doesn't let him rest either. However, he has wanted to be a guide for a Traveller since young, and no he finally gets the chance. Except the Traveller (Cody) is a teenager - one of the people he is worst at dealing with.     Profile Pic:
