Encounters in the Wasteland

In the wasteland, meeting with fellow Remnants could be a stroke of luck, or the last mistake you'll ever make.

Trading & Bartering

Some Remnant tribes are known to barter goods with wanderers, believing they can spin themselves a good deal. Tribes use common smoke signals to notify other Remnants of their presence, and willingness to trade. One notable example of this is the Airport Ruins Tribe.

Unsurprisingly, currency has no value outside of the walls. The only things that can be traded are items deemed to have some kind of use. This includes:
  • Vitamin D Pills - These pills are extremely rare, and lessen the brutal physical effects of the constant darkness.
  • Food & Water
  • Alcohol, Tobacco other rec. Drugs - Some Remnants have worsened addiction effects from prolonged absence of their personal vices. One Remnant could trade very highly for something they have a history with.
(Note: that this is not all the things that could possibly be traded. It is unknown whether there are any restrictions on what could be bartered, as long as it is deemed valuable)

Violence

Various bandit gangs roam the wastelands, stealing from those weaker than themselves and using force to get what they want. They often attack on sight, or use deception tactics in order to get a target to lower their guard - Bandits are also known to use the trading smoke signal as bait, to lure in unsuspecting victims. It is for this reason that some tribes have become fiercely oppossed to outsiders, and may attack anybody unfamiliar caught in their territory.
Pills for Vitamin D defficiency are a highly sought after commodity.
