Phandalin
Reputation: 65
Where the entire adventure began. Home of the Forge of Spells and Venomfang. Ally and breadbasket for Rockport
Demographics
Before the forge of spells opened up and started doing business, Phandalin was a sleepy town composed mostly of farmers and a few amateur miners looking for a big break. The largest building in the town was taken over by a violent gang because the noble who founded the town had gotten bored and moved to Neverwinter.
After the forge of spells opened up, Phandalin saw a lot more visitors as people came to get magic items, get a job at the forge, or study the forge. Most left once their goal was accomplished, but some of them have stayed and become a permanent part of the town. Gundren tracked down the noble who owned the big house, bought it cheap, and fixed it up. He and his brother live there now.
Phandalin also has the distinction of being protected by a green dragon who lives in a cave a mile or so out of town. Since Tiamat came back, other chromatic dragons who don't want to join Tiamat have come to Phandalin, viewing it as a safe place.
Government
The mayor is Trilena, but, unlike Rockport, Phandalin is small enough that they don't really have a full bureaucracy. If someone has an issue, they go to Trilena and talk to her directly. Trilena will then either handle it herself or conscript some of the other townsfolk to do certain tasks.
Defences
Venomfang and not much else

Forge of Spells: a natural well-spring of pure magic that allows easy enchantment of items. Gundren Rockseeker and his brother have built a business here selling magic items and also hired several wizards to study the phenomenon. The Forge of Spells can hide magical items from divination simply by being in proximity to it.
Farms: Most of the people who originally lived in Phandalin were farmers. They grow mostly wheat, corn, and other basic staples.
Mill: a mill for grinding wheat is on the road between Phandalin and Rockport
