City Watch / Investigator

City Sentinels are responsible for maintaining law and order within the city while also serving as detectives who solve crimes and uncover hidden threats. Their duties and activities include: Maintaining Law and Order: As members of the city watch, City Sentinels patrol the streets, marketplaces, and public areas to ensure peace and safety. They enforce local laws, break up fights, apprehend criminals, and respond to disturbances, acting as the first line of defense against crime and chaos.   Investigating Crimes: Beyond their role in maintaining public order, City Sentinels are trained investigators. They examine crime scenes, gather evidence, interview witnesses, and follow leads to solve a variety of cases, from petty thefts to more serious offenses like murder, smuggling, or espionage.   Uncovering Hidden Threats: City Sentinels are vigilant against more subtle dangers that threaten the city, such as secret cults, organized crime syndicates, and corrupt officials. They work to identify and dismantle these threats, often going undercover or conducting covert operations to gather information and make arrests.   Using Observation and Insight: With keen observational skills and a strong sense of intuition, City Sentinels are adept at reading people and situations. They can pick up on subtle clues, detect lies, and piece together the truth from fragmented information, making them effective in unraveling complex mysteries.   Serving as Mediators: They often act as mediators in disputes, whether between citizens, merchants, or rival factions. Their authority and investigative skills allow them to discern the facts and bring about fair resolutions, preventing conflicts from escalating.   Working with Other Authorities: City Sentinels collaborate with other branches of city governance, such as the local guard, magistrates, and even the ruling nobility. They might be called upon to provide evidence in trials, offer protection to important figures, or conduct investigations at the behest of higher authorities.   Employing Diverse Skills: Their role requires a mix of combat proficiency, stealth, and social skills. They are trained to handle physical confrontations but also to navigate the city's social and political landscape, using diplomacy or subterfuge when brute force isn't the answer.   Community Engagement: City Sentinels often build relationships with the local populace, gaining trust and gathering information that can help in their investigations. They might have informants, allies in various social circles, and a network of contacts that provide them with valuable insights into the city's undercurrents.
