Eli Hymlocke
Eli Hymlocke
Eli Hymlocke came to Venice as a young man inheriting some tenaments from an estranged uncle. He managed them well and his fortunes grew, however he was plagued with visions of ghosts and apperitions. With the rise of industry he saw that the foundries and iron works kept these apparitions at bay, he went from landlord to industrialist overnight as he switched from less rentals to more factories and foundries.
He hoped it would drive the growing number of “ghosts” out of his city. Making more profit off those living in his properties was an added “bonus” that he turned around to expand his holdings until it reached the boundaries of the neighborhood as it is today. The nickname of these city blocks to Hymlocke Row came soon after.
At first it seemed that he succeeded. His profits rose and Eli had plans to create a legacy and become one of the powerful families running the city. Until 1877 the bombings in Venice and the resulting fire claimed much of Eli's holdings as well as his new wife.
Since then he has rebuilt his properties but has not stepped foot outside his villa, some people say that he is dead and his staff are secretly running things, others that he has gone mad.
