How do I get there?
Centerlight Freehold is in downtown Seattle. Down a little used side road sits the Centerlight Square, a historical building complex.
Can unenchanted people enter?
Unenchanted kinain or mortals can enter The Centerlight Square building and travel to any floor without actually stepping foot inside the freehold. Only the basement hold any possibility of crossing over into the freehold. To mortal eyes the basement is fairly uninteresting – a X-shaped intersection of two corridors leading off to boiler rooms, dirty storage spaces and circuit breakers.
The only way for an unenchanted person to enter the freehold is through the elevator entrance (see below). The code for the elevator still must be known, and the elevator can be monitored to prevent unwanted or accidental intrusion. The Main room, North room (library) and South room (hall) overlap unused sections of the Centerlight Square basement and can be traveled to by the unenchated. The rest of the rooms lay completely in the dreaming.
Is there a trod?
Centerlight Hearth has one trod. It has been heavily warded, and no one is yet aware of its power.
Mortal seeming: Centerlight overlaps what was once a very attractive and posh office complex called the "Centerlight Square". It had a bookstore and coffeeshop on the lowest (street) level. Owned, mortally by Roland Stuhl, after his death the whole place had closed and fallen into a decrepit, bankrupt silence. The building is still in good shape; there was no reason to condemn the place or tear it down. Indeed several businesses tried to move in and start anew, but all closed down within 6 months. Some call the place cursed; and many called it haunted.
In the decade since the rekindling of Centerlight Hearth the mortal building has been restored and renewed, surpassing its former glory and becoming a desirable location for shops and artists.
Mortally it is a three-story building with crisp art deco style architecture, big windows on the bottom floor and comfortable interior design. The first floor boasts a popular, artistic coffee shop, a quirky used bookstore and a few other artistic, trendy shops. The second floor is for offices, and the third floor offers trendy apartments for fae and kithain tenants. There is a public entrance at the front and back.
The public entrance leads to an open foyer with a grand staircase leading up to the higher levels. There is an antique elevator at the back of the foyer, and a spiral staircase off to the left hand side leading to the basement. On the west side of the building is the coffee shop; which has a patio and an attractive garden.
Chimerical Seeming: Centerlight is a solid, sturdy, sleek structure; it rests among chimerical islands within the near dreaming that spreads out over the city. It is a low-lying structure; impressive in its graceful art clean shape and soft blend of metallic colors rather than an ostentatious castle form. Originally built as a safe haven, as it grew it still retained elements of the solid fort built to protect weary travelers. It can be entered one of three ways:
1. By elevator – by pressing in the correct code of floor numbers into the old style elevator, the elevator will take fae into the heart of the freehold. This leads into the large main room.
2. By spiral staircase – the staircase leads down into the basement, which has a mortal seeming. There are several utility doors, and in the far back is a heavy oaken door, which can only be seen by the enchanted or the fae. The door can be unlocked by a silver key, which is granted to trusted members of the county. This leads to the back of the north hallway, by the library.
3. Through the rose arbor: If a point of glamour is spent, the rose arbor in the back garden triggers a magical door through which fae can step directly into the freehold. This leads to the west hallway, near
The freehold itself is laid out in a star pattern, with hallways radiating out from the main room. The hearth is just north of the main room in a small triangular room that has a skylight. The main room is a gathering area, filled with places to sit, rest and congregate. The hearth is a formal room, used for ceremonial purposes. The six radial arms are as follows:
North: Library and reading rooms
Northwest: Sleeping Quarters
Southwest: Kitchens and dining area
South: Formal hall, court gathering area
Southeast: Armory, stairs leading down into a dungeon/holding cell area
Northeast: Private offices, laboratories, and other useful spaces.
