Biography: Upon reaching maturity, the wood elves of House Ithillaide (pronounced: ih-thal-yahd; translation: Moonmeadow) are given the option to prove their worth as warriors. This choice often involves a journey to unfamiliar lands to aid in wars, take on predetermined tests, or to fulfill other tasks bestowed upon them by the most trusted allies of House Ithillaide.
The elves that elect the path of the warrior are among the most respected of their House, although some elders and wise members of the tribe look down on them as dim-witted and arrogant. At some point, usually after an unspecified period of adventuring and exploring, the warriors are expected to return and serve the House as guardians. Failing to do so is looked upon as disrespect and can have several degrees of consequence.
Elessare's mother, widowed in 569 CY, selected this path for him when her beloved husband died defending them from the Horde of Elemental Evil in the Battle of Emidry Meadows. Elessare, having never once objected to his mother's wishes, was eager to prove himself in memory of his late father. He studied the ways of the warrior and became quite skilled in weapons common to his kinsmen. Most notably, Elessare demonstrated an unusually gifted talent with the bow and has come to favor it.
Elessare departed from his home in the Gnarley Forest, having never married. His mother is the only family whose opinions he values and he was moved by the pride she felt in his increasing martial aptitude. Although Elessare knew very little of the world outside his native land, he did not find himself overwhelmed by the metropolitan world beyond the Gnarley. His behavior in social settings is quiet, preferring not to call much attention to himself, but he will not hesitate to let his opinions be known if he thinks they needs to be heard. He is often very direct and to the point, and prefers the "act now" method of doing things. He is very patient toward those that have earned his respect, and he displays some leadership qualities that stem from his confidence in his own abilities. He does not shy away from making decisions on behalf of a group if he deems it necessary. However, he does not enjoy negotiations or diplomacy, leaving that to people who better understand the ways of a society of which he most certainly is not a part.
Elessare's meteoric rise to power began humbly enough. He followed House Ithillaide's instruction to bear a message to the cousin of one of his elven kinsmen. Elessare journeyed to the small mining town of Diamond Lake, east of Greyhawk City, and there found camaraderie with some other adventurers that were fresh back from a successful escapade of their own. In delivering his message to Ellival Moonmeadow, Elessare joined these new companions that yet stood on the brink of a great quest that would determine the fate of the world.
