Biography: Varamis's true parentage is not known. His adoptive parents were human nobles of Greyhawk City who told Varamis nothing of his actual heritage. It is clear that he is of gray elf descent, as he bears the physical characteristics and pensive mannerisms common to that race. Varamis's surrogate parents were neither cruel nor kind, seeming to raise their adoptive charge with a degree of aloofness that suggests they were performing the task of raising him out of some unplaceable duty rather than out of love. As soon as he was of age, they transferred his care over to that of the University of Magical Arts, where Varamis began his studies in the field of wizardry.

In time, Varamis came under the tutelage of Allustan, a wizard with a permanent residence in the mining town of Diamond Lake. It was here that Varamis would find himself propelled into a rapid ascension to power as he was drawn into the plots of insane cultists who sought to bring about the return of Kyuss and the ensuing Age of Worms. The young gray elf was instrumental in thwarting this terrible threat to Oerth, and along with his small group of friends and comrades, fulfilled the ancient prophecies predicted by an order of strange druidic diviners.

Since the thwarting of the return of Kyuss to the world, Varamis has not been idle. He has traveled a great deal across the Flanaess, attending to unfinished business from his many adventures. It is rumored that the young archmage even returned to Diamond Lake to set things right there, establishing one of his old allies, Valkus Dun, as the new mayor of that town. He visits with Baron Caine Blackhand often in the city of Alhaster, making good use of a network of teleportation circles he has established in different lands.

Present Whereabouts
Varamis has been seen in the region of Alhaster, offering sage advice to Caine Blackhand as needed and helping with the defense and support of the city. It is said that Varamis has also been traveling the outer planes of existence with at least one of his close friends.
