Lionfolk
One of the strange races that inhabit the Duchy of Foridia, Lionfolk were the first to achieve acknowledgement, if not acceptance. When the first armies from Tel Morath flooded into the countryside to destroy the Dread King, the Lionfolk were kept as exotic caged pets, who were pranced around at the feet of the dark master of the land. Once he was defeated, Aenarion d'Parravon Val'ianie granted the Lionfolk freedom and land rights to all his kingdom. Honorable and faithful, sometimes to a fault, Lionfolk hold valor and virtue, traits that endeared themselves to the Duchy. Who granted them the ability to attain knighthood. Lionfolk show little preference in the clothing they wear, emulating the fashion of Foridia which they live in, though it is more to keep up appearances as most clothes sold in Foridia don't fit Lionfolk easily. Most Lionfolk prefer to wear shirts and pants instead of the overly ostentatious clothes many of the wealthy in the Duchy put on. While young, they stay close to their parents and their pride, which numbers vary from six to a dozen others. Once they reach their early thirties, sometimes younger, they are considered adults, and can choose to either stay with the pride or travel beyond seeking their own righteous path. It is not looked down upon if a Lionfolk chooses to forge his own way.
+2 Strength, +2 Charisma, -2 Dexterity: Lionfolk are strong and charismatic, emulating the pride of their people, but are notoriously clumsy due to their height and broadness.
Humanoid: Lionfolk are humanoid. Humanoids breathe, eat, and sleep.
Medium: Lionfolk are Medium creatures and have no bonuses or penalties due to their size. Lionfolk are tall and muscular, standing between 6'2” and 7'2” when they reach adulthood. They usually weigh around 240–300 lbs.
Normal Speed: Lionfolk have a base speed of 30 feet.
Terrifying Roar (2 RP): Lionfolk gain the following supernatural ability: Once per hour as a standard action, a member of this race can emit a thunderous roar. Any creature not of its subtype (if humanoid) or type (if another race type) must make a successful Will saving throw (DC 10 + 1/2 the user's character level + the user's Charisma modifier) or become shaken for 1d4 rounds. A target that successfully saves cannot be affected by the user's terrifying roar for 24 hours. Creatures that are already shaken become frightened for 1d4 rounds instead. This is a sonic, mind-affecting effect.
Bite (1 RP): Lionfolk gain a natural bite attack, dealing damage equivalent to that of a creature two size categories lower than normal for their size (1d2 for Small races, 1d3 for Medium, etc.). The bite is a primary attack, or a secondary attack if the creature is wielding manufactured weapons.
Bond to the Land (2 RP): Members of this race gain a +2 dodge bonus to AC when in a specific terrain type selected from the ranger's list of favored terrains. This choice is made at character creation, and cannot be changed.
Carrion Sense (1 RP): Lionfolk are natural hunters, they have a natural ability to sniff out carrion. This functions like the scent ability, but only for corpses and badly wounded creatures (creatures with 25% or fewer hit points).
Sharp eyes, sharp ears (2 RP): Lionfolk gain a +2 racial bonus on perception checks made with this skill.
Low-Light Vision (1 RP): Lionfolk can see twice as far as a race with normal vision in conditions of dim light.
Languages: Lionfolk begin play speaking Low Foridian and Lionfolk, a dialect similar to Catfolk.
Age: Lionfolk consider themselves adults at age 33. They commonly live about 150 years, but some have lived as long as 180 years, despite those Lionfolk being markedly infirm by that time.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Lionfolk are big and well-muscled, standing well over 6 feet tall, sometimes even reaching 7 feet. Lionfolk, like the rest of the beastfolk such as their cousins the Catfolk, have small claws for nails, though they are usually not sharp enough for combat. Lionfolk have blond, bushy hair over their forearms, chest and legs, while the rest is a course bristly fur. Male Lionfolk have bushy blond hair and beards that resemble a lion's mane, but can sometimes be reddish in hue.
Genetics and Reproduction
Females reach maturity at 16, and can have litters of up to four at a time.
Growth Rate & Stages
Lionfolk are considered adults in their early 30s in their culture and live up to 150 years. Middle age and greying fur begins around the age of 79.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Lionfolk are massive people and thus require a larger diet than most others. They are known to eat entire deer over the course of two to three days.
Biological Cycle
In the winter seasons when the first snows fall, Lionfolk go through a change in their fur. Roughly the first two to three inches of the hairs turn stark white, giving them a camouflage bonus within snow.
