During the early 1000s, the dragon-headed longships of the Brevan appeared out of the Auchrere Straits, and no coastal kingdom was safe from their depredations. Since then, the Brevan people of this northern realm have settled and grown more civilized, but the spirit of adventure and the lust for plunder still burns strong in their hearts. The clan Jarls rule, in name at least, the extreme continent of Breovan, a frigid, rugged land of rich taiga, treacherous marshes, moors, and great boulder-strewn moraines left by departed glaciers thousands of years ago. The coastline is bracing and cool , and it rains year round, with deep winter snows. Fog envelops the craggy high lands covered in shrubs, while light mists of rain patter against the deep dark pine forests filled with all manner of legend. Brevan are skeptical of outsiders and cling heavily to tradition and oaths of clan. In 1533, the Draugen Empire attempted to subjugate the hardy people of Breovan. They were met with extremely brutal unconventional tactics. The armies of Draugen got so far as to reach the northern highlands, convinced they had pushed the Brevan clans there on purpose. Little did the Empire know, the Brevan retreated slowly to the highlands on purpose, intending to fight them in the frigid winter. The Empire suffered a brutal loss, with an entire 10,000 man legion perishing in the craggy region of snow. Since then, the Draugen Empire has steered clear of Breovan.
