Triton
Tritons are a race of aquatic humanoids native to the oceans of Shoujin.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Tritons are vaguely similar in appearance to short Sea Elves, or perhaps more-so the titular character from the real-world film, The Creature from the Black Lagoon. They are slightly short humanoids covered with scales. They have fins on their limbs and where the ears of a Sea Elf would be. Like Sea Elves, they have gills on their necks, and their hands and feet are webbed.
Biological Traits
Tritons are capable of breathing both air and water, although their necks must be unconcealed for them to survive in the water for extended periods of time.
Growth Rate & Stages
Tritons become physically mature at 15 years of age.
Ecology and Habitats
Tritons are most at home in deep marine environments. They have a natural resistance to the cold and make their homes primarily near the poles.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Tritons cannot digest plants and plant-based foods. Because of this, on land their diet is almost exclusively meat-based. However, they are completely capable of eating brown and red algae, and so Triton cuisine is far from simply being a meat-based culinary tradition.
Additional Information
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Tritons are most common in temperate and polar oceans but are not a rare sight anywhere that is far away from shore.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Tritons have innate magical abilities. At a base level, all Tritons can create clouds of fog out of thin air, but some Tritons are able to further refine their abilities and create gales and spring water from the ground. They are all also able to communicate simple ideas with other water-breathing organisms.
Civilization and Culture
Beauty Ideals
Tritons highly value shiny scales.
Major Language Groups and Dialects
Tritons typically can speak Common and Aquan.
Common Etiquette Rules
Tritons tend to be much more polite than other races.
Common Dress Code
Tritons generally keep their necks, hands, and feet bare at all times, although soldiers may make exceptions to the neck in certain cases. This is because of the necessity of their gills and webbing in-between their digits for life underwater, and in the case of the hands because gloves are impractical due to their fingers not being separated.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Tritons often consider themselves superior to other peoples, which has gotten them a somewhat negative perception from mainstream society.
Lifespan
Up to 200 years
Conservation Status
Tritons are rare on land.
Average Height
5'
Average Physique
Tritons tend to be a little stronger both in raw muscle power and in constitution than other races.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Triton scales range from green to blue in hue, although on rare occasion they may be red or orange. Unlike Sea Elves, whose webbing between their digits is the same color as their skin, Triton fins and webbing tend to be a different color from their scales.
