The Gleeman's Caravan

A Gleeman is a performer. A Gleeman is an actor. A Gleeman is a singer.   A Gleeman is all of these things and more. Storyteller. Historian. Mentor. Teacher. Spy.   When the Gleeman comes to town, everyone crowds the market square to greet them and their troupe. These traveling performers come from all walks of life, all corners of Weirth. Some were born to be aristocrats, others in a farmer's hovel. But all of them have a Knack for entertaining and bringing joy to others.   The role of a Gleeman's Troupe is essential in the World of Weirth, as they carry and spread the Songs of Remembrance, lest we forget the past and be consumed by it. Tales about the creation of the world, of mighty heroes & heroines, milkmaids that averted wars and scullery boys who saved kings from assassination. All of the stories and lore of Weirth can be learned from the clans of the Gleemen. They travel back and forth across the world, some of the only groups able to go from Empire to Empire without restriction. They love to collect new stories, share old ones, and help local Elders and Storyfolk curate the tales of their homes.   The Troupes of Gleemen travel in wagon caravans of six to 12 wains, usually pulled by horses or oxen (but occasionally vorlup or even magical constructs). These wains are traveling libraries, art studios and costume collections. They do often trade in very exotic and rare products, from the far corners of the world, at least as often as they do in information. Records of births, deaths, migrations, knighthoods and more are extremely valuable information to the leaders and rulers of the towns and villages of Weirth. The Caravans are on a loose schedule, keeping to the highland plateau during the wet season, and visiting the Low Country in the winter and spring. Communities and settlements look forward to these visits with great anticipation, as they are cause for a break in the routine and several evenings of feasting and celebration. Invitations to spend the rainy season with one noble or another are highly valued by the Merchant class, and invitations to stay with a noble family that will be hosting a Gleeman's Caravan are the hardest to come by.
