Magic of Kene
Magic
The Luxipitant Nerve
The Luxipitant Nervous System is the part of a creature which allows it to coordinate it's actions by sending signals between mind and body, allowing the harnessing of magical phenomena. The system detects magical changes which happen to and around the body, allowing Mages to directly manipulate a universal constant known to academics as The Weave. The Weave.
The Weave is a raw constant in the universe, allowing spellcasters to manipulate magic. The Weave is present in all objects, dead or alive, animated or inanimate.Spellcasters
"Spellcaster," or simply "Caster," is the term most people use to refer to those with the ability to manipulate the Weave in Modern Times, however there have been other type of spellcasters to have existed since the dawn of time, beyond the simple titles of "Wizards, Mages, Sorcerers, Warlocks, Witches," etc, all being gender-neutral demonym for magic users.Arcanist
Arcanist was the title given to a magic user prior to The Severance, noted as magic users who were able to push themselves to high levels of magic, unrestrained by The Weave, and granted mastery to the Arcane. Capable of many acts no longer known to modern casters.Magi
Magi was the title given to magic users post-Severance. After the Severance the structural presence of The Weave changed, no longer permitting the natural casting or mastery of any magic higher than Ninth Level Spells. The Magi eventually developed into "Mages," and the rest is history.- The Arcane Order

The Fraying of the Weave
The Dragon Breach
On the 13th Moon of Haavar, in the year now known as The First Year, three powerful arcanists banished the Ancient Dragons from the mortal plane, undertaking a costly ritual at the peak of Dragon's Rest. While their task was noble, they unknowingly had pulled a thread loose from reality, and magic was not to be the same again.
The Ancient Dragons were more than just users of magic, magic was an innate power within them, their body had more of the Weave than it had pure flesh. By destroying the Ancient Dragons, the Weave had been physically weakened. The only benefit came in the form of those with Draconic blood in their families; where there was an increase in power, their energies no longer being siphoned by the Ancient Dragons.
The Severance
Many mages debate the effectiveness of the Severance, despite it restricting the level of magic possible in the world, the time had pose as the largest collaboration for the magical communities of Kene in recorded history.
When spellcasters first discovered lichdom, it was a mystifying concept. It presented a lot of danger, not only to ones life, but in the face of losing oneself. This did not repel arcanists fully, however, many following in the mastery of those before them - wishing to experiment with the full power of the Weave. At the time, lichdom was recognised as a new frontier of magical capability, with several wondering just how high the Higher Mysteries would lead them.
Over time, many followed these liches in servitude, being taught extracts of what these arcanists had achieved in their undeath, worshipping their master, Arkärnaak. Recruiting many arcanists from the Psigil Order who would let a sense of mortality slide in the side of knowledge.
Liches and their followers were not adverse to tempering with High Level Magic. In their experimentation, many caused adverse damage to the Weave, creating sometimes permanent areas of Dead Magic. As time went on, those afflicted by lichdom grew more apathetic to the world. Some in pursuit of power, others: knowledge, money, and so forth. When news spread of a lich attempting to summon an Ancient Dragon from the void, many knew they would need to intervene with the growing threat.
This was known as The War of the Arcanists, finally ending when Archmage of Giy developed a spell to permanently trap Arkärnaak and his followers in a pocket dimension - a constant zone of dead magic. Doing so caused a Planar Spasm, resulting in the sudden apparition of all spellcasters connection to magic. In this act, Mystra had wove new boundaries into the metaphysics of the planes.
The New Weave
The Magi examined the fallout of the battle, no longer able to cast anything more powerful than a cantrip, they watched and waited as magic slowly returned to the world. The Weave was finally mending itself. However the misuse of magic had given Mystra a new perspective. As she restored the weave, she forbade any magic higher than Ninth Level Magic to be cast on the mortal plane again. Appalled with how the arcanists had abused their power and the Weave, she reprimanded their control of any magic higher than that of ninth level.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
