Kargatu: Daskalarch's Rise
The role of the daskalarch is not the most fundamental but certainly the most unique and identifiable component of the Keyrit government. The daskalarch starts work as an apprentice, then ascends to leadership through the kargatu.
History
One of the monarchy's earliest advisors approached the king and declared that he was no longer fit for his position. What was the king to do in such a predicament? The advisor presented a younger man who had managed the more menial duties of his work. The king asked that he discuss the duties of office with the young man personally. The two discussed matters of state in the absence of the former advisor, during which the young man discussed his concerns for the future, after which the king declared that the man was quite suitable. From then on, the king and his line endeavored to have a personal, professional relationship with all those who managed the nation.
Execution
Before the presentation, the daskalarch will write a report describing his apprentice's achievements and work personality. Flair is to be expected, as this essay will be publicly announced by the king (or viceroy, if the king is unavailable). There are records of poetry and other forms of writing in lieu of essays. The daskalarch escorts his apprentice with his significant other to the king, as if the apprentice was his own child. While readings are required by law to be public, daskalarch promotions are commonplace enough such that the only attendees are usually coworkers and family members.
If the apprentice is to replace his former master's position, he will return to his position alone while the king formally retires the daskalarch. If the king has a different position intended for the new daskalarch, he will escort the former apprentice directly to his new office. Traditionally, this journey would be undergone on foot. However, as the Keyrit Empire expanded and the king's foreign duties became more numerous, this mode of transportation was reserved only for new duties within the capital itself, all other assignments using faster modes of transportation.
