Kroigre: House of Sight

Purpose / Function

The House of Sight, a common building across Wouraiya, is designed to treat all manners of unusual sight issues, namely Krokroi, Wyikroi, and Kukloria (Cyclopia). In addition, the house of sight sells monocles and eyeglasses where glass is legalized. Even so, the noble Kauaru and the niche Werai pay top dollar for their special eye treatments, contributing to a larger portion of income.

Alterations

Within the house of sight are obstacle courses, small chambers used for eye tests, apothecaries, and even surgery rooms. Concoctions are made that can't necessary solve the issue but at least alleviate the mental trauma. Many patients have accidentally become hooked on these concoctions, and the house of sight unwittingly contributes this to its income as well.

More ethically, patients are instructed to walk along a series of straight and curved lines within the obstacle course. In combination with the eye tests, professionals can determine exactly how severe the issue is. Glasses, tapes, and surgery are the common remedies, but the esteemed reputation of the various houses of sight give the clinicians free reign over the manner of their treatment, for better or worse.

History

Species across Wouraiya have always had sight issues, but two events specifically necessitated the foundation of the houses of sight. For one, the interbreeding of the Kauaru with humans led to generations with mentalities and vision which were not compatible with their newfound heights. Because the Kauaru were generally high up in society, they could bring more capital to solve, or at least mitigate, their collective afflictions.

The second event was the invention of lens crafting in Keyrit. With imported fine sand from Rgo Ugo, and the massive economic boom instigated after the subjugation of the Welokyi, Keyrit found itself at the forefront of many sciences, most applicably the ability to bend light. The applications were obvious to the elderly humans in the country who still had a few ounces of productivity left in them, and eyeglasses became all the rage, even to those who had only slight sight issues.

The house of sight had a prominent problem and several means of solution. Houses of sight were established as businesses, soon expanding to cater to Werai as well.
