Takaka'welok: Welokyi Wars

The Conflict

Prelude

Eryai Retwerai was founded far away from most of the other major Irewan settlements of Keyrit. In order to maintain trade, the city established an outpost in the heart of the continent, "Vort Uyiki." After reports of banditry, Vort Uyiki was garrisoned with soldiers, too many by the standards of Eryai's neighbors. They issued an ultimatum to Eryai Retwerai to tear down the outpost and demilitarize promptly. The eastern city-state promptly rejected their neighbors' demands, and the western factions declared war on the East.

Deployment

At the time, most city-states only had militias, farmers who would answer the call to arms. Still, Eryai being both an outsider and a threat, thousands of Welokyi answered the call. Eryai was much less populous and so much less prepared. The majority of their soldiers had been sent to garrison the fort, and so they were one step behind their neighbors.

The Engagement

The assault on Vort Uyiki was a failure, but only because the outpost couldn't be taken. The city-states of the west made an orderly retreat with almost no casualties. Vort Uyiki bought Eryai time. The king of Eryai, already late to reinforce the outpost, instead used the time to raise a large army, and to train it extensively. When Vort Uyiki was assaulted again, the professional reinforcements provided for a much more resounding, though still not quite decisive, victory. From there, the king isolated each city-state from its allies, pinning enemy armies in place while overpowering the others into submission. Victories became assured, and the morale advantage the king brought swept through the entire continent.

Aftermath

About half of the city-states were forcibly conquered. The demoralized other half presented Keyrit with unconditional surrender. At the time, there was no legacy of a uniting force on the continent. In fact, the last country to incorporate all those peoples was the empire of Irewa. Rather than reuniting the peoples under the new banner of Irewa, the king established a new nation, named both after the new continent they inhabited and the new culture they adopted: The Daskalarch Order of Keyrit.
