Werai
Basic Information
Anatomy
This species has three vertical slats that it uses for eyes. Its build and gait are identical to humans. Its skin is covered in a waxlike substance, which can be peeled off in times of emergency. Beneath, the skin feels like a peeled hard-boiled egg. The mouth is fixed, with a thin, transparent layer of skin covering the entrance.
Genetics and Reproduction
A heavily polygamic society, with otherwise identical processes to humans.
Growth Rate & Stages
Prolonged to a century but otherwise identical to humans.
Ecology and Habitats
Generally prefers flat plains or mountainous regions, but anywhere with enough sunlight can produce a habitat. Can survive with any atmosphere and at any temperature above room temperature.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Sustains itself on thermal energy. Does not need to forage, but cannot stay unexposed to the sun or cold for more than half a year.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Heavily polygamic, with a single male per tribe/village. The existence and health of the male are intertwined with that of the village. In turn, the females manage the military and affairs of the tribe.
Domestication
Werai have few advantages or disadvantages over normal humans, so domestication attempts are few and generally unsuccessful.
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Werai wax is incredibly insular, but efforts to seize the wax are considerably harder than the product is worth. Because the Werai have very few funerary procedures, dead bodies are often sold to outsiders for wax harvesting.
Facial characteristics
Three slits for eyes, and a fixed mouth.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Werai are heavily concentrated in the north of Unterritory but have spread across the world in small colonies. Wlitowaru'u, Irewa, and Retrougo are the most populous colonies, containing dozens of tribes.
Average Intelligence
The mean Werai intelligence derives from the male's intelligence quota, with otherwise normal distributions. In villages, males with higher average intelligence prefer females of higher intelligence; lower, with lower. As a result, there is a massive intelligence disparity across Werai-occupied regions.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Cannot smell; cannot taste; can see a higher and slightly broader spectrum than humans.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
W, Y, T, K, and R are the primary consonants.
Courtship Ideals
The patriarch selects the females who carry on the species' line. The females who are not chosen often take on higher leadership roles within the tribe. Courtship time is practically nonexistent due to the ratio of males to females.
Major Language Groups and Dialects
Southern and Eastern. The Eastern variant correlates to a more flexible mouth structure, and so includes the "ng," "p," and "zj" sounds.
