The Estrid Blade
Righteous vengeance, made material.
Told about in tales and legends, Estrid is a powerful artifact that is adept at the destruction of fiends, and driven by the soul of the demigod of the Elven Pantheon that once held the name Estrid. The demigod took the form of a weapon after having her divine power siphoned by the Infernal Lord Methistoph. She chose the form of an Elven Curve Blade, though is also capable of becoming a longbow when needed.
Physical Appearance
Estrid gives off a constant white-gold glow, softly bathing its surroundings in holy light. The weapon has two different forms it can take, with a unique appearance sharing motifs of feathers, gold and silver metals, and coiling, flowing designs.Sword Form
Those who have held or observed the Estrid Blade closely have described the metal of its blade as being similar to Mithral, but with a white-gold hue, rather than Mithral's characteristic blue sheen.Bow Form
When transformed into a longbow, the weapon is described as seeming as though it were composed of a material halfway between fine Lashwood and some kind of pure alabaster colored horn. The Oath
In order to wield the Estrid Blade, the weapon requires that any would be wielder swear an oath to partake in a war of vengeance upon fiends and their worshippers. The Oath requires the wielder to mete out justice, not seeking redemption or salvation for those who find themselves in the way of Estrid's fury. However, the Oath-taker is permitted to spare mortals who renounce the fiends they follow, so long as they agree to help Estrid in her goal of destroying more fiends.History
Estrid was born to the elven deities Varna and Melèr in the Stirring Age, briefly after mortalkind awoke from slumber. She was created as a Demigod, residing within the holiest layers of The Divine Sphere. Born of the elven deities of law and good, she took on qualities of not only her two direct parents, but of the entire pantheon. She took on the light of Mirima's radiance, the elegance of Varna's waters, Melèr's purity of soul, learned to protect others from Senda, and even learned of combat from Fueynar. Though not a true goddess, Estrid was the darling of the elven pantheon and elven people alike.
Encounter with Methistoph
In the mid-Stirring Age, Estrid was the target of an attack by the Archfiend Methistoph, who imprisoned her within his Iron Palace in Hell. It was there that her divine power was siphoned, in order to restore the Infernal Lord Methistoph, who had still not fully recovered from the Sundering of Gesh. The pain and anguish over her lost essence echoed through the stars, causing the first of many yearly meteor showers during what would come to be known as the Week of Stars under the Tualian calendar. Estrid managed to escape from Methistoph's grasp before becoming fully consumed, but only had enough divine essence to transfer her soul into the form of a weapon, which she imbued with her own mind so that she might take vengeance on Methistoph.Past Wielders
Estrid has been wielded by many mortals in times past, though few were better known than the first to wield the weapon. Zaria of the Diell'Ethari was a Snow Elf who wielded Estrid from 640 T.A. until 930 T.A., the year of her death. The weapon was then passed on to a dear friend of hers, the Human Drifter-on-Water from The Capalli Wilds. Estrid then passed into and out of obscurity periodically until it came to be in the possession of Queen Nora Bennett of the Fae Wilds, member of The Royal Court. It then was passed to Rowan Northstar, another member of the Royal Court, who wields the weapon today.
