Meridia's Current

Geography

Meridia's Current is a brief river leading from Lake Mira into Honeyo Bay. While being the outflow for the lake, it is also a major shipping route for vessels leaving Meridia, Aradelle, and Liraena, as it has been dredged sufficiently to accommodate larger ships. The largest settlement on its shores is Port Castellion, seat of House Castel, lords of Honeyo Bay and surrounding islands. It also features Caer Verdi, a fortress-turned-city, founded to defend the area on behalf of House Mira, but having been repurposed by House Verdi following the Shattering. On the eastern shore is the Ilian town of Shormill, and along both banks are a number of smaller, unmarked settlements, and numerous ferry crossings. 

Military History

Along this route, most warships head to sea, as the largest naval base in Anhara is located through Meridia's Current, in Lake Mira. However, this river has only been breached once, when Litoric Marines slipped through during The Waterspout War to destroy some of the largest ships of the fleet while they lay at anchor in Meridia. Retreating back down Meridia's Current, they did the same to the fleet at Port Castellion, before escaping out to sea. 
Following this, Aidan's Rock and The Castellion were thoroughly refitted to defend the river, and the lighthouses in Honeyo Bay were upgraded.
