The Old Man of the River
The Old Man of the River is too ancient to even remember his own name; his mind is rotted and hollow. He commands no supplicants and accepts no tributes. His avatar, such as he can be contained, is an enormous, whiskered, multi-eyed catfish that dwells in the opaque depths of the sluggish river and unfathomed lake near Todmorden.
And yet, despite these things, there are those that would worship him. He is, after all, an accumulation of power which cannot be denied. Those who follow the Old Man believe in the hearty nature of crudity and unsophistication. They venerate instinctual acts and desires, especially those of the hunt and of hunger. They believe in the ancient and deep knowledge, so old that it existed in the times before speaking.
