The Port City of Sommersea

Sommersea is the largest port city in Wyrmwuld. Located on the Western edge of Neromenes, and nestled between two major mountain ranges, it is the primary port of trade between Wyrmwuld and the rest of the world.   Sommersea is renowned for more than just its trade, however. It is well known among artistic circles for being a place where art patronage is strong - thanks in large part to the wealthy Ashcroft family, Athena and her daughter Marjory "Jory" Ashcroft. Athena spends most of her time seeking out the finest of all types of artisans, frequently holding contests and seeking out new talent. Jory, however, is responsible for another major landmark in Sommersea: The Slumbering Temple

Demographics

Primarily humans but with a good mix of other races. Class ranges from lowly dockworkers to the ultra-wealthy. Most citizens are fishers, boatswains, or tradesfolk.

Government

The Mayor makes the majority of day-to-day decisions, although the King obviously has the final word. Taxes are collected on all imported goods, which keeps the city in good shape both in terms of structure and defense.

Infrastructure

Beneath the city is a surprisingly robust sewer system which drains to a river outlet far south of the city.

Districts

There are two major districts within Sommersea: Upper and Lower. The upper district sits upon a cliff overlooking the city, and is accessible via a rather long staircase or, if you can afford it, a glass elevator powered by Welkinstones. This upper district houses the wealthy and the noble, and visually reflects this. Bright blooming gardens, smooth well-paved roads, and beautiful ornate architecture betrays a significant class difference. It also, naturally, holds a castle wherein live King Frederick Stonehold and his court.   The lower district, to contrast, is fairly plain, although it could be said to be more vivacious. Roads here are patchwork - no potholes due to good city infrastructure, but made of different materials and varying levels of quality work. Buildings are significantly less well-maintained, and the only plant life in this section of the city is near the Cathedral to the Golden Lady. Unless, of course, you count the grass which breaks through the cobblestones, or the moss which covers the northern buildings of the wharf sector.   This area of the city houses a lively market, bustling businesses, a museum to the Old Gods, and of course, the notoriously busy Sommersea docks.

Guilds and Factions

Sommersea is home to the Sailor's Union HQ, who oversee all seafaring folk in the region, ensuring that they receive proper care and pay.

Geography

The city is bounded in both north and south by nigh-impassable mountain ranges. It is the only outlet to the sea on the west side of the continent.
