Arts Quarter

The Arts Quarter of Metis is famous for its strange and weird residents. A commune of colourful, chaotic characters, it serves as a refuge within Estalia for those who seek a more "enlightened" lifestyle. Most residents take on at least one form of art, such as painting, singing, or dance.
Within the Quarter itself, groups of artists exist, however their exact members are unclear. Each group champions either a specific style of art or general outlook on the world, but it is a "faux pas" for any artist to commit to any one group. Committing to one outlook or style means alienating your potential audience, which means that you won't eat. Most artists have a handful of groups which they switch between like wardrobes, with some daring few switching between completely contradictory groups.
Despite its chaotic nature, the force of law in Estalia allows it to continue. There are many theories regarding why, including corruption, the benefits of entertainment, or choosing the lesser evil. As it stands, on all official reporting of Metis, the Arts Quarter is omitted, acting more as an enclave than a full part of the kingdom. Despite this deliberate ignorance, most of the artists possess a Traders ID, as it is required to sell their artistry outside the boundaries of the quarter.
