Bracialcitis
Bracialcitis - more commonly known as "the back-breaker", "Dwarf's Disease", or "Gladstone's Disease" - is a deadly infectious disease which tends to focus on Dwarves. It was first encountered during The Second Estalian-Disorganized War during the Estalian occupation of Kraggenhammen.
The primary symptom is the extreme coughing fits which give it it's first nickname - as the strength of the coughs cause the victim to contort their back savagely and strangely. Other symptoms include sweating, raised body heat, and delerium. Despite it mainly passing within Dwarf communities, there have been a limited number of cases of humans contracting disease.
It was first encountered during the war when a dwarf named Groud Gladstone contracted the disease. The disease swept through the city, and fearing the potential spread of it throughout the republic, the Estalian Senate declared a quarantine for the city. By the time the governmental scholars had finished studying the disease, the anger in the city was far past taming. Already enraged by the occupation, and further angered by the months-long quarantine, a riot broke out in the city, resulting in The Silver Legion's retreat. Despite their weakness, several victims with Bracialcitis participated in the revolution, with one Legion officer reporting that they had retreated explicitly due to the concern of contracting the disease.
Since the war, Bracialcitis has become substantially rarer, and is much better contained. Studies have found that the major symptoms can be treated within humans by a combination of relatively local herbs, while specialized healers are required for contracted dwarves.
The disease has become so rare, in fact, that some conspiratorially-minded people think that the entire disease was fake, and that it was just an underhanded tactic adopted by the Dwarves to push out Estalian rule.
