The Oris

One of the largest buildings in Estalia outside of The Sedile, the Oris is a monument to communication and order in Estalia. The Oris is a large, circular building capped with a silver dome, which has large entrances at all cardinal directions.
The Oris serves as both a collection and distribution centre for most of the city's mail, as well as a record for all sent official correspondence. When a letter is delivered to the Oris, it is taken to one of the desks on the first floor. After waiting behind a very long line, the deliverer provides basic information regarding the letter, including sender, receiver, and a brief description of it's contents. If it is a government document, it is then issued a unique identifier, and the letter's information is recorded in a separate form. This form is taken to the basement of the Oris, which is a large vault containing the records of all governmental communications. From there, the letter is taken to one of the various side rooms to be sorted, packed, and ultimately sent to its destination.
The Oris is not the only collection and distribution centre in Estalia, as each city typically has one, however, the Oris is by far the largest, and it is responsible for coordinating all other centres in the country. The upper floors of the Oris serve as office spaces for the various administrators and clerks which keep the system running smoothly.
In the past, the major bottleneck for communications was the large distances between the edges of Estalia, and deliveries were typically infrequent. However, with the invention of the Kinetic Engine, travel has become significantly faster, and the influx of communications has become a problem for the army of clerks employed at the Oris.
