Dardara Worm

The Alazlamak Desert is home to a giant species of worm known as the Dardara Worm. These fearsome predators can be found all over the Alazlamak, but are most prevalant in the northwest corner. The droppings these creatures leave have become a valuable commodity to both the Kononoian Crown and the glass industry in Steadystone.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dardara Worms are large tubular creatures, covered with large cilia-like appendages. They also have several segmented appendages at the front of their bodies and two prehensile antenne on the side of their mouths. Dardara have no eyes and cannot hear, but they have an exceptional sense of smell and can feel vibrations from even the most minuscule creatures traveling nearby. Their mouths contain several rows of sharp teeth.   The Dardara Worm is an invertebrate, but it does have a moderately sturdy plated exoskeleton over the top half of it's body. These worms move by peristalsis and their four front appendages. Dardara are not very fast, tending to move in a "surge-pause, surge-pause" fashion.

Ecology and Habitats

Dardara live under the sands of the Alazlamak Desert. They are nomadic creatures who do not create a den or home of any kind.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Dardara worms hunt by ambush, lying in wait for it's next meal to wander by overhead. They burst up from under their prey, using their antenne to keep the creature in range of its mandibles which are then used to drag the meal into thier mouth.

Additional Information

Social Structure

These worms have no acual sentient thought, and therefore do not socialize with other creatures.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Dardara Droppings and the sand immediately surrounding those droppings are a valuable resource for the government of Kononoi.

Average Intelligence

The dardara worm is just about as dumb as the dirt (sand) that it lives in. It has one purpose in life, and that is to keep it's belly full.

Author's Notes

I did use the same opening paragraph that I used for the Dardara Droppings article. I thought it was a good paragraph! At the point of submitting for the prompt, word count was at 352 without that paragraph, and I hope because it was my paragraph that it was ok that I used it twice.
