The Heopheathae Massacre

pronounced: hee-op-heat-hay
Ytann 15, 1515
This chronicles the event of the Heopheathae Massacre, an unwarranted and despicable act of war orchestrated by the newly minted King of Riyos, Alluin Wyndvyre.

An Unstable Monarch

Alluin Wyndvere marked the beginning of his reign the same way he ended it, with a horrific crime against the people of X'anthia. Unlike the end of his career, however, Wyndvere was never brought to justice for this crime. Nobody who knew him was surprised to learn that he was the responsible party though, as he had a long history of bigoty, paranoia, and sadism.   Wyndvere's xenophobia turned his attention to his neighbors in Queberona. The majority of them lived in Heopheathae, and they were everything that Riyosians were not - wild, uninhibited, and free. The final nail in Heopheathae's coffin was Mount dLavasteng. Well, more precisely, the diamond mines contained within Mount dLavasteng1.

Strike from the Darkness

X'anthia had never really experienced any major hostilities prior to this, and Alluin knew the other countries would never condone an attack. He devised a plan to take the city down covertly, using a platoon2 of his own soldiers armed with magically enhanced fire to burn the Heopheathae people out. The entire city was built up in the trees inside the rainforest that butted right up against the mountain, so Wyndvere decided fire was a logical option.   To add to the confusion, Wyndvere had all troops dress in uniforms from various other nations. This would point suspicions away from him, particularly in the event of capture. On Ytann 15, 1515 at three in the morning, they surrounded the city and burned it down in one coordinated strike. They quickly flowed out and away, leaving the smoldering wreckage of a remarkable civilization behind them. The platoon never made it home though, having met an "accident" on the return journey.

Out of the Ashes

The losses to the Queberonian people were massive. Over 22,000 men, women, and children perished in that one action, as well as the loss of their Capital and thier homes. The survivors were confused as to who they had angered to cause this kind of brutality and loss. They spent the next month regrouping and working on a plan for reconstruction.   Unfortunately, the plight of the people of Queberona does not end with the massacre. One month and one day following the Heopheathae Massacre, the world was asunder by The Shattering. But that is a story for a different day...
