Skybreaker

Forged during the Dissention Age from iron harvested from the meteorite that formed Lake Aubin in the Goldshield, Skybreaker is the ancestral weapon of House Serretes. An enchanted longsword, it posesses the ability to pass through other metal with no resistance, rendering armor useless and immediately breaking any other blade it crosses swords with.

History

In 3148 DX, King Ashric I of House Serretes ordered a survey of Lake Aubin, a small but deep lake in the southern region of the Goldshield. At the time, it was speculated that the lake's source was magical in nature, as no streams or rivers flow to nor from Lake Aubin. However, when mages were finally able to chart the lake bottom, it was discovered it had in fact been formed by the strike of a large meteor that was likely thousands of years old. Intrigued, the mages removed the cart-sized rock from the lakebed and transported back to Verdeon for further study. As a token of gratitude to their royal patron, the mages later extracted a portion of the iron contained within the meteor and had it forged into an ornate steel longsword, which they gifted to King Ashric during a celebration marking the tenth year of his reign. Fascinated by the gift, the king named the blade Skybreaker, and it became a treasured heirloom for House Serretes.
Following the death of Lord Paramount Betram Serretes in 4762 UX and the ousting of House Serretes from power in the Goldshield, Skybreaker was smuggled out of Bright Blade by the late lord's supporters. Its current whereabouts are unknown, though Lord Regent Vedas Tillans has long had a lavish bounty in place in the event of the sword's return.

Significance

Skybreaker is not only a symbol of power in the Goldshield, but exceedingly valuable as a weapon. It is an enchanted sword, one of only a handful that exist in Rayveth, as their creation was outlawed by House Doeconse after the country's formation.

Raw materials & Components

Skybreaker is made of meteoric steel, with accents of gold on the crossguard and along the lower half of the blade. Perhaps due to its unusual origin, the steel itself is black in color. The grip is wrapped in soft black leather.
