Backstory

Gwathrentur was born to a Woodland elf couple on the edge of a steep slope, beneath a snow-capped mountain range in Cenai. Their village was nestled at the border of a pristine pine-tree forest, inhabited by a diverse community of other races. The villagers earned a meager living by gathering pine sap, and crafting it into incense or glue, depending on their family traditions. Gwathrentur's family specialized in incense production, and from a young age, he accompanied his mother into the forest to collect the most fragrant pine sap.
His father, though a woodland elf, preferred working with stone over wood. He crafted delicate vials and burners for the incense, appreciating the durability of stone in contrast to wood's vulnerability to fire.
One fateful day, Gwathrentur and his mother had to flee from the village. It is unclear as to why that was. Only a few know. Gwathrentur seems to keep the reason for this as one of his many well-kept secrets.
What is known is that years later, Gwathrentur and his mother struggled to survive on the outskirts of the Kingdom of Aspana. Facing discrimination as elves, they relied on Gwathrentur's resourcefulness. He adopted the name Gwathrentur, meaning "Shadow of the Forest," and honed his skills in stealth and agility, resorting to theft to secure food and money from wealthier city-dwellers.
One day, Gwathrentur attempted to steal from a lone traveller who turned out to be Sicarius, the lead assassin in service to the king of Aspana. Impressed by the young elf's efficiency and stealth, Sicarius offered him a position to gather intelligence from the lands and tutor him in the art of theft. Promising to care for Gwathrentur's mother, Sicarius set the elf on the path of his first true adventure.
