In the realm of Xenethia, there exists a legendary event that stirs the hearts of warriors and adventurers alikeā€”a tournament that has become the epitome of honor, skill, and valor. Welcome to the Grand Tournament, a spectacle that unfolds once every two decades, showcasing the might and magic of the realm's most exceptional combatants.   The origins of this grand spectacle date back to the summit of the kingdoms, twenty years after they had settled with their decisions and forged a continental system. To prevent conflicts from escalating into war, the leaders decided to establish a tournament where their strongest warriors would face off against each other, representing their respective realms in epic battles of skill and strength.   However, as time passed and the world evolved, so did the tournament. Adventurers from far and wide sought to test their mettle against the champions of the kingdoms. Recognizing the potential for thrilling encounters and fresh perspectives, the rules were amended to allow one adventure group per country to participate, alongside the kingdom's chosen warriors.   The tournament was not without its dark history, though. In the seventh iteration, a tragic incident unfolded that forever altered the course of the competition. A participant, consumed by the desire to claim victory, summoned a devastating divine smite. Unbeknownst to him, this unleashed a cataclysmic force that resulted in the loss of thousands of innocent lives among the crowd. Approximately 120,000 souls were extinguished in an instant.   To prevent such a horrific tragedy from recurring, the tournament organizers implemented stringent measures. The days of unchecked violence and fatalities were over. Now, the tournament was regulated by a council of sorcerer overseers, tasked with ensuring the safety of all participants and spectators.  

Structure

The previous champions have the honor of initiating the opening ceremony, showcasing their skill and awe-inspiring abilities. The tournament follows a 3 vs. 3 format, with sixteen teams in total, representing the eight participating countries. The initial round pits the adventure groups against the chosen warriors of the kingdoms, setting the stage for breathtaking clashes between different styles and strategies.   As if the excitement of the battles wasn't enough, the arenas themselves are a testament to the tournament's grandeur. Originally built as the largest temple dedicated to the deity Torm, the venue has evolved with each tournament, growing in size and magnificence. Towering over the landscape, it can accommodate a staggering 150,000 individuals, comprising both loyal spectators and awe-struck creatures from across the realms. Airships soar above, providing an unparalleled aerial view of the unfolding spectacle.   Every round of the tournament introduces an element of surprise, as the arena adapts in random and unpredictable ways. From shifting terrains to treacherous traps, the combatants must remain on their toes, ready to adapt and utilize their surroundings to gain an advantage. This ever-changing battleground ensures that no two battles are ever the same, adding an element of unpredictability that leaves both participants and spectators on the edge of their seats.   The rewards for emerging victorious in the Grand Tournament of Kingdoms are as enticing as they are secretive. Alongside a substantial sum of gold, the winners are bestowed a reward by the deity Torm himself. Although the exact nature of these rewards is shrouded in mystery, rumors abound. Some whisper of powerful arcane artifacts capable of turning the tide of any battle, while others speak of an influx of divine energy that enhances the winners' own powers, making them even more formidable in future conflicts.   As the sun sets and the tournament draws closer, anticipation fills the air in Xenethia. Warriors and adventurers from every corner of the realm eagerly prepare to test their might, to face the ultimate challenge, and to etch their names into the annals of history. The Grand Tournament beckons, promising an unforgettable display of skill and the indomitable spirit of those who dare to answer its call.
