Orbirian Shorthand

Oribiran Shorthand is a written language only. It consists to 90% of abreviations and to 10% of just horizontal straight lines.   The Orbirian Empire reached it's size and importance mostly thanks to their advanced technology. The shorthand, which was used for any documents - from little post-it's to official contracts - was developped originally by scholars and inventors. This had the favorable effect that on one hand, they had to spend less time reading and note-taking during experiments, but on the other hand also encoded all their research, making is pretty much impossible to read for any other nation. Still, especially during the last few years of the empire's glory, even the upper- and middleclass peasantry could write and understand basic shorthand messages.   Currently, notes and books in orbirian shorthand are still being discovered in basements and ruins, especially along the borders of the prior empire. Since the shorthand is specifically based on abbreviations for orbirian dialect common, the Lacuna wiped out pretty much anyone who could understand the shortenings. Most pieces therefore end up finding their way either into the hands of historians of The Calassarae , who attempt to study them, or they end up in an auction or antiquity shop as decorative collectors items.   Unbeknownst to the rest of Trian, some of the most renowned scholars of the Idunis Sanctuary are actually able to read it. Idunis Sanctuary had cut their ties with the Orbirian empire maybe half a century before the Lacuna. Said division was strongly linked to how the mages from Idunis Sanctuary considered the Orbirian Expansion abuse of knowledge based power. Therefore, they did not mourn the erasing effects of the Lacuna much. They strongly intent to keep the language officially dead and the few exisiting translation manuals are under lock-and-key, buried in the magically guarded vaults beneath the city.
