Kitsune

Kitsune are masters of disguise and powerful spellicasters.    In their early societal stages, their true form is identical to that of a simple fox, which allows them to hide in plain sight.  They are master illusionists and can be categorized into two groups: zenko (good-willed kitsune) and the nogitsune (mischievous kitsune).   Kitsune have social ranks and change their appearance as they grow more powerful, but only zenko can progress to the third rank and upward.

Zenko are usually protectors of the weak and statues depicting them can be found in many temples.  It is said that they can ward off evil spirits and other yokai. They tend to punish wicked members of the church, merchants that profit off from the poor and drunkards.

Nogitsune love to play pranks against unsuspecting creatures and use their illusionary powers to trick them or drain the life force out of them.
