Olyvjaer Dalaraen

The Dalaraen family was among those elves that secured and settled the Hiyndurill Forest. Proving themselves first against green dragons and later against all sorts of invaders, though mostly humans, they rooted themselves deeply in the warrior society of the so called Wood Elves.

While many Hiyndurill elves broke ties with their brothers and sisters from the Empire and no longer care about what was lost outside the forest, Olyvjaer still believes that the Elven Empire should be rebuild. Only a strong empire would offer the protection the forest seeks and that empire needs to be build on human blood and bones.

Contrary what many may expect, Olyvjaer actually spent several decades in the Realm of the middle. He wandered the land to learn about its people and society. More than anything else he learned to despise the voletile society and morals of its people. Within just of a couple of decades he saw more changes in local power than in all his families life in the Hiyndurill Forest. While he was disgusted with humans he also reached out to elves living in the Realm. Descendants of the once proud empire were now adjusting to the conquerors' will, bending their own traditions to fit in. Yet he also met Lia Artanis, the most beautiful woman he ever saw.

Despite their contrary views on humans they had a short and passionate relationship, lasting barely a decade, before their differences split them up. Yet Olyvjaer father a son in that time. Lia and he agreed that she would raise his son in the Realm, surrounded by elves. Olyvjaer was invited to visit whenever he wanted, but Keijo would only go to the Hiyndurill Forest once he was a grown elf. To Lia's surprise Olyvjaer didn't fight her wishes at all and even though he obviously loved his newborn son he accepted her terms. Shortly after the two split up and Olyvjaer returned to the Hiyndurill forest.

Once back among his people he began rising an army and train them to fight humans based on what he had learned. Especially young elves were eager to join the charismatic commander that spent time amongst the hated humans and studied them so closely. Fired up by the idea of a re-newed glory for the elven people they followed his call, preparing for what is yet to come.

In 436 YoU the army lead by Olyvjaer raided the Realm's land east of the Hiyndurill River initiating the conflict with the Realm. Avoiding large battles they focused on small raids and skirmishes patiently bleeding the foe's larger army.   Decades of preparation came to fruition as elven spies all across the border region, as well as in other places supplied the raiders with information. Sympathizing elves on the fringes of the Realm also sabotaged the Realm's forces under his command, which lead to elves and half-elves being re-settled from the region. Those that refused to comply were executed further inflaming the hunger for revange for the army under Olyvjaer's leadership.   As Keijo Artanis joined him for a brief period Olyvjaer entrusted him with one of the raiding groups. Father and son reunited in the war to free as much elven territory from the hated foe spiked again the narrative back in the forest mobilizing additional young elves to join the ranks. Yet the successful stint at his father side didn't last long as his half-sister Alvery asked for help to reclaim the old elven ruin of Elandiril. Olyvjaer decided to support this effort and didn't just release his son to help with the matter, but also assigned the Ulthelaen twins to accompany him.   While Keijo and the two other young elves journied, his army of followers continued the war. He encouraged audacity among his raiding parties, but warned them to not venture too far outside the woods. Under his leadership young elves quickly became confident and cunning forces, taking ownership and responsibility for the missions they themselves choose to do. The decentralised war effort immobilized the large military based on a top heavy leadership style the Realm was based upon. With just a few triumphs to celebrate against a foe that avoided battles in large numbers and based its effort in just small ambushes the moral of the Realm's forces quickly dropped. Olyvjaer new that his elves wouldn't tire as quickly as the humans. Due to their longer life spans they didn't perceive several years of slow pacing progess as a lack of success, while the human soldiers on the other side of the river were drained by each month by the stress of knowning that any laps in concentration might end up with an ambush.   In 437 YoU things were shaken up with the return of Keijo and Alvery. Alvery shared reports of demonic attacks all over the continent and confronted Olyvjaer with a letter stating his role providing ships for the hobgoblins. The warmaster didn't bother denying it, as his contact within the Realm organised it, but he pointed out that he had no knowledge of any cults or demons. Yet this revelations harmed the trust between him and his son. Forced to accept his sons decision to leave for Elandiril again he also allowed Caer and Nalia Ulthelaen to follow them again. Caer, who Olyvjaer had previously entrusted to build up a spy network around the border region warned the elven leader that they needed to take the threat seriously and find out if demon-worshipers had infiltrated Olyvjaer's contacts within the realm.   Later that year, with Caer and Nalia reporting of their experiences fighting demons during the 'Siege of Korbel' as well as of minotaurs spreading along the frontlines with the Realm, Olyvjaer was persuaded to take a step back to slow down the war effort and to investigate the fiendish presence along the river.
