Tribes of the Stone Desert

Few people would live in the Stone Desert of their own choice, but there are different tribes that settled in the harsh environment. Their history starts with the rebellion of Saara about 1.400 b.U. as the first fiends answered the pleas of the slaves and terrorised the city. While many hoped the conjured antrocities would be under the summoners control some recognized the real danger - a danger worse than the Sahuagin masters - and used the chaos to flee north into the arid Stone Desert where the Sahuagin couldn't follow and the elves didn't care about.

The stoney terrain offered little beyond biting winds rough landscapes that couldn't be farmed, but while most perished some of the humans learned to endure and master this land. Impressed by their will to hold on goliaths helped them settle down and thought them where to find food and water and how to thame the large goatlike creatures called torgjers.

As time passed by more and more humans from Saara grew desperate enough to venture north, away from the fiendish war between demons and devils, came to the Stone Desert and found those who went first. The land couldn't sustain large settlements, but the nomadic groups took in those who seeked shelter. As those groups grew they became tribes developing their own specific customs and territories.

It wasn't just humans though that wandered north fleeing the city. As the devils gained the upper hand, demons had to retreat as well and started to occupy the Stone Desert. Their presence corrupted the land, making it even more inhospitible. But this time around the tribes didn't flinch and ran instead they began hunting the fiends. Over the centuries of this conflict not only the Stone Desert was changed, but the tribes as well giving them a darker look. They also became harder and fiercer from fighting fiends in the blighted lands. After the long struggle they managed to regain control of their territory banishing most fiends from the material plane.

The long conflict against their wannabe masters made the tribes even more fierce protectors of personal freedom. That's why they were swayed by the elves to fight against the Hegemony of Fire motivated to kill Nandral and later joined the clans fighting against Zeryakobaal.

Nowadays there are still several tribes roaming the desert with the Herd of Tusken being the largest among them. Their proud bloodline goes back to Khane that lead the tribes against Nandral.
