Agents Of The Eye

Chaotic Neutral Agents Of The Eye
Group Formation. Initially created to serve an elusive beholder intent on muscling in on drow territory, the agents were the The Unblinking Eye's vanguard. Spies, thieves, and scouts all wrapped into one, they were the perfect masters of stealth. Imbued with an aspect of shadow, the agents could move about unseen so long as they had some manner of cover. Though initially enslaved to the Eye and little more than pawns in his game, the agents were freed by a drow noble family. The agents, now free of their master, left the Underdark, uncaring as to what happened to the Eye. Once above ground, they found their talents were highly valued, and so they expanded, occasionally inducting others into their darkened ranks through unknown means.
Mission. Power, wealth, prestige, and indulgence. All things they were denied while in service of the eye. That isn't the totality of their wants, however, as there is a sub-faction that wishes to use the agents as a force for good. The gray agents as they are called are only a small subsection of the total organization however and represent a minority. Nonetheless, they are allowed to remain as part of the agents as interpersonal conflict is forbidden.
Group Organization. When enough members have been accumulated so pickings become sparse once divided evenly, a group will usually split off. These free agents will locate another good town to settle down and construct a chapter house. Once this is done, they set up shop, muscle out competition, and begin operating in all manner of illegal trade. Twice a year they send tribute to the chapter house that they were originally a part of. Induction into their ranks is rare, however, as they usually take on the guise of a seemingly normal gang. While in reality, only the very top of the hierarchy know their group’s true allegiance, the rest do not. Exceptions are made only rarely, and only after that individual discovers the truth of the agent’s origin. After that they are tapped to join formerly, gaining the shadow infusion and taking the nine promises.
Leader. The Empty Throne is their leader, and though they refer to it endearingly it is in fact just a chair. Fearing any true centralization of power, only the chapter heads and their council can decide what to do for their chapter. Collusion between houses is greatly encouraged, and most maintain close relations no matter the distance between them.
Recent History. Responsible for a daring raid on a Yaunti temple, the agents of the eye are actively being hunted by those they have crossed. Rumors have also been spread that the artifact stolen is capable of making someone invulnerable and immortal. With such a tempting prize, many governments and rival groups have begun muscling in on Agent territory in the hope of finding Agamoto’s Arm.
Opinion/Enemies. Few truly know of the Agent's existence due to how secretive they are. Only high-ranking members of government or particularly observant local governors even know they exist. Those who do know of them are quick to put on a display of force to push them out. For they know that if the agents put down roots they will be nearly impossible to root out completely.

Never again.
