Sukac Assassin
Sukac is both a ranking and a profession within the illicit organisation, the Aconitian Syndicate. The position is held by members of the syndicate who have been specifically trained by their superiors as close-range assassins, handling any missions in which long-range techniques cannot be or are deemed too dangerous to be applied. Sukac assassins are proficient with handheld blades, particularly daggers, poisons and hand-to-hand combat, the latter needed as a last resort due to the close nature of their work with their victims and the lack of safety compared to long-range assassination attempts.
Career
Qualifications
Sukac assassins are typically recruited by the Aconitian Syndicate and join the organisation as Anthor trainees as young children, with the organisation having seen potential in the child in one of their business areas. As Anthors, a candidate for a Feroxi position within the Aconitian Syndicate will undergo extensive tests and trials before their area of specialisation is determined, which for Sukacs is with close-range weaponry and stealth. An Anthor will only become a Sukac assassin if they can flourish under the guidance of their supervising Aco and pass whatever tasks are set for the candidate by either Aco or Rogov. In order to be a Sukac, an Anthor must undergo extensive mental training to keep their compsure in the face of dangerous, daunting and potentially gruesome missions, as well as an almost flawless ability with hand-to-hand combat, hand-held weapons, map-reading, poison identification and use, and stealth.
Career Progression
Due to their specialised skillset and the manner of ranks within the Aconitian Syndicate, there is little chance for a Sukac to be promoted within the Aconitian Syndicate. Occassinally, a Sukac will be promoted to the position of Aco if they are able to prove their loyalty and usefulness over a long-standing period. However, this is typically only needed in the case of a former Aco dying or deserting, the latter almost always ending in the Aco's death as well. If promoted, the Sukac-turned-Aco will then serve as the primary supervisor for Anthors (trainees) who wish to become Sukac Feroxi (trained members of the syndicate specialising in close-range assassination) at their designated outpost. In extremely rare cases, a Sukac-turned-Aco may be promoted to the outpost head of operation position of Rogov, though usually their services are needed outside of the outpost and in the field.
Payment & Reimbursement
Payment is provided to a Sukac's supervisor directly upon completing an assigned assassination quest, with the funds supposedly used to pay for the assassin's board, clothing and sustenance. Any coin that touches the hands of the Sukac, whether that is through tips from benefactors of the hits or stolen from victims, is expected to be handed over to an Ako or other higher-ranking member of the syndicate as part of the Sukac's dues.
Other Benefits
There are little benefits associated with being a Sukac assassin, other than the guarantee that the Aconitian Syndicate will house and feed the individual in exchange for their skill and services. Some Sukac assassins rise to prominence and are earned nicknames within the criminal underbelly of Venadeus, but other these titles there is little appeal for such a dangerous career. Sukacs, like other Feroxi (low-ranked but specifically-trained members of the syndicate), are mostly seen by the organisation as dispensible, with the Aconitian Syndicate constantly seeking out children in orphanages to train in the case of a replacement being needed.
Operations
Tools
There are a number of tools utilised by Sukacs on their assassination missions, including:
- Hand-held weapons, including but not limited to daggers, shurikens, swords, knives
- Poison vials and syringes
- Lockpicks and other related tools
- Grappling hooks and rope
Workplace
While each Sukac is based at their home outpost of the Aconitian Syndicate, this profession often requires the Sukac to travel to even the farthest corners of the continent of Venadeus if that is where their assassination mission takes them.
Dangers & Hazards
The position of Sukac Assassin is arguably the most dangerous of the Feroxi positions within the Aconitian Syndicate, as it is the one which requires the most direct contact with an enemy or potential victim, and therefore at the most risk of being caught or killed before completing their task.
Type
Illicit
Legality
This position is part of the criminal underbelly of Venadeus and thus not a legal profession within the mortal realm.
