The Black Crown
History
The Black Crown is a cursed artefact of the kingdom of Morozkov in the fae realm of Lyfeldea. The crown has power amplification effects and was often sought out by those seeking power within the kingdom, and for a long time was passed down between members of the Morozkovian royal family. However, the crown was eventually realised to be the root cause of a curse that had long-plagued any male member of the royal family who had worn the crown. The curse of the crown would poison the blood of any man who wore the crown for extended periods of time with dark magic, and many men of the Morozkovian royal family had short lives, especially short for the almost immortal fae.
Once the effects of the curse were finally discovered, the Morozkovian royal family sought out any fae with an aetherial ability that would allow them to remove the curse from the crown and hide it where people would be generally unwilling to search for it, or unlikely to find it. Once they had found an aetherial who could remove the plague, they enlisted that individual along with a team of healers from Reyncester, to purify the crown of the curse. After the ritual had been completed, the crown was taken to the tomb of Rurik Voronin, who had died while on an exploration deep in the mountains, driven mad by the poison plaguing his blood vessels.
It wasn't until many years later that a different curse was bestowed upon the crown once it was located by one of General Niko's spies within Lyfeldea. This one was one of Niko's greatest ideas, planting the soul of a deceased, demonic being that he had cursed and then slain within the crown, so that it would affect the wearer's morals and thoughts. Eventually, the newest High King of Morozkov was encouraged by the lords of his court to seek out the crown, still believing that it would bestow the High King with great power should he wield it.
Significance
The cursed Black Crown is a significant artefact in the history of the Morozkovian royal bloodline. After finding it, the current High King of Morozkov is able to amplify his aetherial power of duplication to extend to biological matter, not just non-biological matter. The High King of Morozkov clones himself, but his clone begins to plan to take control of the kingdom and kill off the original High King.

Why would they both remove the curse of the crown and then hide it? Wouldn’t they want to keep it for its power once the curse had been purified?
Because the power amplification was the curse, with extended wear and use of the magic of the crown poisoning the blood of the wearer. They hid it for extra safety, because of the destruction it had caused, they did not want to retain it. Trauma, I suppose, made them extra cautious of the crown even after its initial purification.
