The Formation of the Sororibus Egis

The formation of the Sororibus Egis is an important event in the history of Yelyta Elsari, signifying the end of a time period in which the deities who created the world and the sentient species within it lived in peace and prosperity. The Sororibus Egis is a magical barrier created by the daughter goddesses of Matedetho and Balhayai, the two fallen deities who created Yelyta Elsari, to protect their fae folk from the greed of the mortals and their God of War, Augvidem. In present-day Yelyta Elsari, time is measured in years after the Sororibus Egis was formed, designated by the letters 'PE', meaning 'Post Egis'. Anything that occurred prior to the formation of the Sororibus Egis is referred to in years 'Ante Egis', designated by the letters 'AE'. Since the formation of the barrier, any sort of harmony between the fae and the mortals has been destroyed, and the sense that there is an impending war between the Lyfeldea and Venadeus has been brewing in both continents.

Manifestation

The Sororibus Egis manifests as a giant expanse of dense red clouds that surrounds the fae continent of Lyfeldea and is impossible to navigate through. Any who attempts to pass through the thick wall of cloud that covers the ocean between the two continents either finds themselves turned back without their knowledge of when or how it happened, or loses their way completely and never returns home. There is one sole location along the Sororibus Egis can be crossed, which is a red door in a tunnel that runs underneath both continents and the ocean between them. It is believed that earth elemental fae on both sides of the barrier built the tunnel to aid any stranded fae in Venadeus after the barrier was suddenly erected to return home. The effects of the Sororibus Egis still penetrate below sea-level, despite there being no visible evidence of its existence, and only individuals with the blessing of a fae High King may safely pass through the door in either direction. The entrance to this tunnel in Lyfeldea is within the Kingdom of Flames, Hwajaegi, while in Venadeus, there are many concealed and forgotten entrances, though the main one is in the kingdom of Arenvik. In each of the Lyfeldean kingdoms, there is a statue of the goddess who represented their kingdom which appeared the day the barrier was created. These statues are the foundations for the Sororibus Egis and are the direct link between the stability of the barrier and the continual flow of magic from the goddesses in the realm of the gods needed to sustain the barrier.

Localization

The Sororibus Egis is localised around the continent of Lyfeldea. Since the barrier was created by goddesses using divine magic, any form of fae magic - from the most basic elemental forms to the rare and highly-specialised aetherial variations - will not work if the individual is standing directly on either side of the Sororibus Egis, to protect its integrity. Although the barrier was erected as a means of protection against the inhabitants of the continent of Venadeus, it shields Lyfeldea and its people from the entirety of Yelyta Elsari and any other continents that may exist beyond the effects of the Sororibus Egis.
