Crystal Ingredients for Magic Items
Crystal Ingredients. Crystals with magical origins can be used as ingredients to craft magic items that have been published in a book by WotC, or can be sold for gold.
Consumable Items. The value of a consumable item, such as a potion or scroll, is typically half the value of a permanent item of the same rarity.
Crafting Cost. Magic items must be crafted with at least half of their value in crystal ingredients and gold can be spent to cover the other half.
Major/Minor Items. All magic items are divided into either the major or minor category according to pages 140-145 of Xanathar's Guide to Everything:
- Minor magic items can be crafted at any time.
- Major magic items might have level restrictions or require a special type of major crystal, so permission must be granted by the DM before crafting a major magic item.
