Description

Vlandar is a Metropolis located on the Vlandar Coastline, by the Orthorn Sea. Vlandar is one of the smaller capitals in the Continent and is located right next to the Lake of Lamentation. The city is actually built on an island that is connected to the mainland by a bridge. The island is located between the Lake of Lamentation and the Orthorn Sea. The city itself is made up of homes, shops, and other structures. Vlandar is mostly known for its one bridge. The bridge is called "Tempest Bridge" and was started by Emperor Augustus Opsius Lutorius himself, but renamed after the hero of Vlandar, Tempest Lynx. The bridge is made of fine stone and is decorated with stone carved statues of Lord Tempest. The bridge was the longest bridge in the continent until the first bridge over the Marpenoth River was completed. The quality of life is high in Vlandar and it has attracted a lot of attention. Many different cultures have left their mark not just on the city's cuisine, but also upon the city's identity. What historically was a city of monotony has grown into an amalgamation of differences and it's this that unites the 48 thousand inhabitants of the city to this day.   Vlandar has taken Inspiration from Corinthia, and this is clear from the city's architecture and structure. The city has gothic looks to it and many buildings have sharp and prestige looks to them, with many of them reaching over 4 stories tall. The streets of the city vary throughout, the main roads are wide and welcoming, offering safe passage from one end of the city to the other. Whereas there are many tight side streets and alleyways which lead to homes and shops along the city.

History

Vlandar was first founded by Augustus Opsius Lutorius, 6th Emperor of the Omarian Empire, near the end of their expansion. Vlandar wanted to make a bridge, connecting the island to the mainland, which would allow the dwarves to get to the other side. It took almost 100 years to complete the bridge. After the bridge was completed, Emperor Augustus Opsius Lutorius took the bridge and spread the news of his completed bridge. This created trade opportunities for the small town of Vlandar, and it began trade with nearby towns, villages and cities.   Emperor Augustus was a tight-fisted man, and the City was founded upon the desolation of Wood Elf tribes who only wished to live in peace. The elves were enslaved, killed and tortured in the name of the Empire's Expanse. Soon after, when the empire was stretched thin over Ylandra, an human warrior by the name of Tempest Lynx sprung into action and pulled together an overnight raid on the Colony. Just in one night, the village was taken back, and the humans who helped the elves made a pact and built the tribe into a more 'modern' system. Tempest destroyed the bridge with the help of the elves, as a show of rebellion against the Empire. The Empire had no chance to send a full assault to take back the land, due to his forces being placed in the east of the Banforte Peninsula, and the land was left in peace. The tribesmen and the humans called the place Vlandar, and began to build it from the ground up into a bustling Metropolis.   During the 50 Year war, Vlandar suffered Naval Assaults from the forces of Eiswelth, as an attempt to seize control of the Ravenfell capital and gain the upper hand in the war. They were very unsuccessful, though as the city had setup the breakwaters to be armoured and manned with siege weaponry such as ballistae and onagers. Vlandar was a very important place for the Dominion, as they could easily send troops through the Orthorn sea to the shores of Kaldaria and their own city of Wildestar. This did not turn the upper hand for them though, as they did lose Wildestar, a wealthy and important place in the realm.
