Koros

Koros is a small continent in the southern hemisphere. Anywhere else on the planet and it would be considered a large island, but here, in the middle of the Sikotis ocean, it's the only landmass within weeks of sailing. The earthen fecundity comes from the volcanic origins of the continent. The inhabitants live mostly on the coasts, but some of the more learned have journeyed to the mountainous highlands and built roads down to the coasts for trade. These learned few are clergy or mages. The highland hills are often stepped to grow crops such as corn and tallow trees. During the wet season, these trees cause the entire continent to alight in a fiery display. The cities are inhabited by farmers, traders, and mages alike. These mages work with meteorites, which they call 'hoshu tenuj' or Stars of Heaven. The meteorites hold mostly iron but some contain a radioactive platinate metal which enhances the mages' ability to manipulate the chemical processes around them.

Geography

The muddy beaches of Koros turn to plains which span the majority of the continent. The Ragutos mountain range rises above it all; the pinnacle peak being Mount Jiku. The lowlands grow coastal grasses and reeds, with a deep yellow clay running a few feet below the surface.

Fauna & Flora

Tallow trees provide a burning oil for the wet season as well as a swiftly growing vegetation. Long coastal grasses are often woven for building materials and headwear. There are semi-dangerous large lizards which some folk hunt for meat, eggs or skin for armor/hardened shoes. Black eagles nest in the higher elevations. Fish are accustomed to the brackish coastal waters and some find their way through the rivers under the mountains into the cities.

Natural Resources

The land is rich in copper and tungsten, but iron comes mainly from asteroids. Trees and grasses grow large and swiftly. Nuts and fruits are plentiful.
