Ascila

The door to your dorm is on the right. Head down the corridor to your personal lab. Do NOT enter any door with a red cross on it. And don't ask about it, either.
— New scientist being introduced to Ascila

Orbiting Apotei, a gas giant in the Aposteus Strand, is Ascila. It is a research station owned by the JSC, or the Jovian Scientific Conglomeration. Researchers within Ascila study the lifeforms and sophonts of Apotei from afar using advanced robotics. The electric blue lights of this research station can be seen from the tram lines wrapping around Apotei, tunneling through the gas giant's thick clouds.

The station itself is simple a large spacecraft of jovian origin. It measures approximately 235 metres in length, with plenty of space for dormitories, laboratories, an engine room, a control room, and other essential features.

A large biohabitat is the focal point of Ascila's interior; a large glass dome cuts through three levels of the research facility, a small Apoteian floating island ecosystem within.

Origin & Mission

Ascila is just one of hundreds of JSC Research Ship. These copy-and-paste vehicles are sent to orbit a unique planet, assigned to study lifeforms that call said planet home. Many of Apotei's inhabitants possess a cure for the jovivirus, a pandemic-inducing disease that is currently running rampant around Jupiter.

Virologists and biologists on board are tasked with taking samples of various organisms, studying their functions and trying to isolate this cure. So far it is proving to be a monumentous task, as whenever this cure is removed from these animal's bodies, it immediately becomes unviable.
