Icebreaker
Channelling glaciamancy, icebreakers are a powerful species from Daglaci's frozen oceans. Icebreakers can breathe both air and water and are often mistaken for both a fish and cetacean.
Scientists have put icebreakers in an unusual taxonomic category, Dipnoi. These animals are rare and quite intriguing, sharing characteristics of both tetrapods and fish.
Icebreakers possess a striking blue crest on their heads used to pierce ice, hence the name. These animals wait below thin sheets of ice for prey to wander about, ramming into their prey from below. The prey is left stunned, and the icebreaker swallows it whole.
With baleen plates to passively filter plankton through, they have no proper teeth to break down large prey items. Instead, these animals have incredibly powerful digestive acids.
Research has shown icebreakers are magical animals, to some extent. While not an inanimal, icebreakers can harness glaciamancy, using it to thin out ice, making prey easier to target and hunt. These clever animals hunt in packs to thwart their prey. They have been documented causing waves to crash into their prey, stunning them, and then breaking the ice below.
