Staropod

Staropod by Mochi

Staropods are massive dinosaurs wandering the Redfields of Venus. These titans reach over a hundred metres in height and travel in massive herds, following paths they create by tracking the movement of stars.

These dinosaurs have a connection to Stellamancy, or star magic. Staropods glow bright purple at night when fixated on a star. A herd will follow a particular star for a few months, looping round the Redfields, forever trying to reach it. When the herd realises this mission is futile, they fixate on another star.

Urban Consequences

As settlements popped up in the Redfields over the last several thousand years, air pollution increased. The industrial era on Venus caused a ton of air pollution in densely populated areas, some close to staropod paths. As a result, night skies became cloudier and stars became less visible.

This sent thousands of staropods off their tracks, leaving them unable to continue wandering, starving, and dying.

Environmental efforts to decrease air pollution have magnified in the last hundred years. Starplants, the only food source of staropods, have been grown along staropod paths, to increase their chance of survival. In urban areas motor vehicles are being discouraged and many corporations are being forced to find greener alternatives to their manufacturing processes.
