Subratera
Subrateras are large crustaceans that currently reside in the Seriban Region. After evolving from Aquiloids, the creatures became docile and friendlier, and evolved to have armour plating used for defence.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Subrateras have a mutated dinocarid body shape, like anomalocaris, a creature that lives across the world. They have a hunched back, with 4 large arms, two ending in pinchers and two ending in hands with 3 fingers. Their heads sit between their two pincher arms, two large yellow eyes sitting on either side. They have a snout with a mouth on the end, which shoots out when attacking or eating. Their backs are lined with armour chitin, which they can flap and swim faster. Their tails have many flaps along the sides, which help them swim through the shallow waters. They have a long foot, which travels under the tail, helping them to move on land. This foot produces slime that evaporates in heat, and the slime helps them stick to the ground on land.
Genetics and Reproduction
Subrateras lay eggs in special chambers in their houses, usually heated with gas pipes. These eggs are small, transparent, and spherical, and females can lay up to a hundred eggs at a time. The females usually lay eggs every few months, but only about one every few years survive. This is because the eggs aren't tended to as parents generally don't care, they only care about the baby once it is hatched.
Growth Rate & Stages
Subrateras hatch as small larva, only a few centimetres long. Over their childhood they'll grow to a metre long, which qualifies them as an adult.
The babies don't develop their arms until they are a few weeks old, relying on their mouthpiece to grab items, only very small ones.

Ecology and Habitats
The subrateras live in shallow waters, where they have constructed their kingdom and civilisation. They can survive on land, and inside their kingdom is Sunev Island, which gives them resources unknown to the rest of the world.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Subrateras are herbivores, they eat the seagrasses and other plants that grow in the shallow waters of the Seriban Region. They harvest an enormous variety of marine plants, especially moonvines, a populous plant harvested throughout the Solar System.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
This remarkable species has developed telekinesis. Their unusual mouths means they cannot talk, so they evolved the ability to communicate with their minds.
This communication works through different species, but unfortunately non subrateras cannot use telekinesis back.

Civilization and Culture
History
When aquiloids began to evolve, they formed into a herbivorous species that was much more docile than their cousins. This new species named themselves subrateras. They moved into shallower waters west of the Kirinian Region, and found Sunev Island. They claimed Sunev Island, and began to form a small civilisation close to the shores of the island. When the threat of other, more aggressive sapient species rose, they constructed a large wall surrounding their entire kingdom, which went above sea level to prevent them from simply climbing over.
They formed the Seriban region, which expanded into the north, giving them a wider variety of resources, making them more powerful. They formed several big cities, one in shallow waters, and a few in more deeper waters, a few hundred metres deep.
