Flame Tongue

A short sword, once possessed by the Dwarfish hero Duorik Ironside the Geomancer in ages past, and buried with him for long centuries, Flame Tongue was forged and cursed by the evil Fire Giant, Idu Maagog, who helped the Gods to banish Demons from Yore but then turned upon his allies and possessed Duorik to set ablaze Hvela Undermountain and drive his people to flee or burn.
It is a finely balanced and keenly edged blade, untarnished despite its years, unfailingly razor sharp and etched with designs of coiling flame.
Upon hearing the word, "Aithinddé!", it bursts into flame, drinks the blood of those it slays and imbues its wielder with the strength of its victims. Legend holds that the blade is sentient, and should it drink enough blood it transforms into an elemental great sword whose fire can never be quenched.
But who believes legends...?
