Nuria Natal

Old Nuria was the beating heart of the Khorian Empire for many centuries, before the rise of northern and western kingdoms such as Tannesh, Barcella and Arcady. As such it is a land littered with historic monuments, ruins and tombs, its people infused with the wisdom and insights of long-preserved cultures and traditions.   Today it is a land much diminished, its fertile soils dried and baked by the sun, its peoples decimated by plague, famine and internal conflicts, their fates sealed by a series of greedy and corrupt petty kings and princes, and, more recently, a powerful priesthood of Nephthys, God of Secrets.   Sprawling port cities still maintain a strong trade economy with the rich and cultured inhabitants of Xiatien across the Nurian Sea, and its people are famed for their dignity and poise in spite of their undoubted suffering.   Nuria Natal is the name for the new kingdom that dominates the northern region of Nuria and borders with the vassal city-state of Lankhmar and the lawless Borderland Provinces of southern Yore.   There is an uneasy peace between these realms, largely due to the lucrative spice and silk trade that runs between Xiatien in the east and the dangerous magocracy of the Red Wizards in the Sundered Kingdoms, through to the distant, glorious and decadent Al-Amlak in the west.   There is also a thriving black market economy in opiates and gunpowder from the east, and exotic beasts and magic items from the west, that benefits both the trade routes through Yore to the Rashan Coast in the East Borderlands, and on southward through into Nuria Natal itself.
