Orcs of Swamp and Mountain
Two great tribes of Orcs plague the realms of Yore. It is believed that before men travelled across the great oceans to east and west to settle these lands, Amarthaur was largely the domain of Orcs. Since mankind’s aggressive settlement of the continent, the Orcs have retreated to mountain dwellings, plains and swamps, where they brood upon injustice and resent their magic-wielding enemies.
In Yore there are the Urzin and the Akrin. The Urzin are nomadic Orcs who drift through the great morass of The Festering Marshes, carrying their crude settlements upon their horizonback turtles. Grommsch is their current leader, but leadership amongst Orcs is often a short-lived career.
The Akrin live in the Icespire mountains, their tribes spread from the border with Morgau to the east, to the Dwarfish cantons of the Ironcrags in the west. They are warlike and fight amongst themselves perpetually, which is fortunate for the civilisations of men for if they were to organise themselves into a coherent army there is little could be done to stop them from reclaiming their ancient homeland. One of the most powerful tribes is the Tor’ug of the Giant Marches, whose leader is Chief Golak.
Half-orcs are scattered throughout the cities and towns of Yore and the Borderland Provinces. It is less common to see them in the Freedlands or the Vale of Sighs, although a scarred and scary-looking half-orc of Akrin blood has been spotted recently in Zobeck. There are rumours he was a demon-worshipper of some kind, but he has not been seen since the Great Fire. There’s probably nothing in it, anyway; rumours spread like… er… wildfire in Zobeck.
