Bloodthorn Anklet

The Bloodthorn Anklet is an artifact that exists within two religious contexts. Within the faith of pre-schism drow, the Bloodthorn Anklet was an artifact of Ahn-tul, goddess of nature and the wilderness, and was said to be the item that gave her control over beasts. Within the faith of the Silent-Striders (whose faith derives from the drow faith), it is instead an artifact of the Gravewaker, and is one of their seven Alms that they bestowed upon the Silent-Striders.

Mythology

Drow, Pre-Schism

Prior to the Depths' Schism, an event that radically altered the drow faith, the Bloodthorn Anklet was said to belong to the goddess Ahn-tul. As matron of the natural world, Ahn-tul was constantly at odds with Hahr-anta, the goddess of beasts and primality. Rather than allowing Hahr-anta to overwhelm her domain with savagery and destruction, she crafted the Bloodthorn Anklet, a powerful enchanted anklet that could grant her control over any who wore it. Later, when Hahr-anta was distracted, Ahn-tul fastened the anklet on Hahr-anta, binding the goddess to her will. Hahr-anta became a minor deity beneath Ahn-tul, and Ahn-tul absorbed her domain.   Following the Depths' Schism, mentions of Hahr-anta and the Bloodthorn Anklet were excised from drow mythos. The reasons for this remain unknown, though the addition of 'slavery' to the domain of Ahn-tul seems to suggest aspects of the original myth might remain within the post-schism goddess.

Silent-Striders

Within the mythos of the Silent-Striders, nomadic tribals living in the Silent Peaks region of Izuth, the Bloodthorn Anklet was a gift bestowed upon their tribe by the Gravewaker, their god of death. The Gravewaker had stolen the anklet from the Matron of Thorns, the god of nature and calamity, after the Matron had attempted to enslave the Gravewaker to gain total control over death and decay. Though imprisoned for some time, the Gravewaker was able to overpower the magics of the anklet and break free from the Matron's control. Upon escaping the Matron, the Gravewaker undid the subjugative magics and transformed the anklet's appearance. When they bestowed the anklet upon the Silent-Striders along with the other Alms, the anklet was now a reminder of the tribe's independence from forces in the world who sought to subjugate them.
