Kurrina

Kurrina is a githyanki adventurer and the Lady of Izuth. Formerly a member of Creche Felre, Kurrina was left behind when the creche retreated to the safety of the Astral Sea during the Riftspawn Crisis. Now, they serve as counsel to their spouse, Lord Ixion of Izuth, while also spending much of their time searching for any information about ways to return to the Astral Sea in search of their lost creche.

History

Early Life

Little about Kurrina's early life is known to anyone outside herself, as records of githyanki life pre-Riftspawn Crisis are limited at best. Without knowledge of when she was born, even the simple matter of age becomes difficult to answer.   What is known is that, at some point during the Riftspawn Crisis, Kurrina crossed over to the Prime Material with the rest of Creche Felre, but was separated alongside two others, Jirresil and Vomac, prior to the creche's subsequent departure back to the Astral Sea. Without a way back, and without the rest of their creche, the three stranded githyanki became wanderers.

Life and Loss

Concrete information about Kurrina begins around 6E 9, with her and the other two githyanki settling down in the Izuthi city of Atlarum. While in the city, Kurrina was part of a research expedition into the dwarven ruins of Ati Falarum. Previous expeditions had yielded little of substance, though Kurrina's fearlessness and drive, instilled in her as part of her tl'a'stil, led to the expedition uncovering previously untouched sections of the ruin, leading to the most successful excavation the site had experienced. Her employer, Ilejeon Taissiel, was extremely impressed with her work, and the two shared a close professional connection moving forward.   Unfortunately, its time on the Prime Material was not without tragedy. In 6E 12, one of the stranded gith, Jirresil, was killed when the caravan she worked with was ambushed by raiders. Without access to a zaith'isk, Jirresil was unable to be revived, leaving the others to mourn their collective loss. While Kurrina wanted to provide a proper githyanki burial for her, Vomac was opposed, believing it better to provide a burial more in line with how the people of Atlarum buried their dead. When its lost sister was finally buried, Kurrina became obsessed with finding a way to secure a zaith'isk, to ensure itself or Vomac could be brought back if necessary.

Lady of Izuth

At the same time that Kurrina was searching for a zaith'isk, the soon-to-be Lord of Izuth, Ixion Zalremil, was searching for a bride. Despite already being married, an archaic piece of Izuthi law required the Lord to be seated beside a Lady on the throne, a role that Ixion's husband could not fulfill. Both Ixion and Kurrina had coincidentally mentioned their independent searches to Lachlan Bellegrandis, a mage living in the city of Gravicolis. Lachlan, seeing an opportunity to solve both problems, arranged a meeting between the two. After a brief period of deliberation, Kurrina agreed to marry Ixion in exchange for assistance in constructing a zaith'isk. The two were wed on the 4th of Avynun, 6E 14, clearing the way for Ixion to become Lord of Izuth.   Ixion maintained his end of the arrangement, providing Kurrina and Vomac resources to construct and maintain a zaith'isk within an unused wing of the Izuth Royal Palace. He also provided them both places to stay, as well as additional funds to finance whatever additional endeavors they desired. While Vomac, now going by Lenos, wanted to distance himself from githyanki culture, Kurrina was still determined to find a way to return to its creche. Utilizing the resources provided by Lord Ixion, it financed a variety of expeditions across the island of Izuth and beyond, searching for other creches and alternative means of reaching the Astral Sea.

Personal Info

Reserved and reclusive, Kurrina is slow to reveal parts of themself unless absolutely necessary, preferring to deflect much of the interpersonal and emotional labor onto her hirelings when possible. Likewise, she prefers to be completely covered when out in public, especially when on the road. Thanks to the bonds she's formed with the Yellowjacket mercenaries she travels with, she's slowly allowed herself to open up more within their company, though will quickly retreat back when other are around.
Serving as Lady of Izuth has allowed them to continue their search for information, though the longer they waits, the more they're beginning to fear it might all be in vain. Despite their efforts, they have yet to find another githyanki, and each half-remembered lead almost always ends up as either a misunderstanding or a setup by someone trying to rob them. And while they've come to rely on the mercenaries they travel with, part of them can't help but feel weak, a kind of githyanki others of their kind would shun. At times, they have considered giving up on their search, though their companions often help them to reassure them of their goal's importance.   In recent months, their search has become significantly more intense, with Kurrina and the mercenaries spending nearly every day on the road. While they claim it is due to a preponderance of leads regarding dwarven technology and planar travel, the real reason is much more complicated. As Kurrina has been isolated from their creche, they are slowly forgetting aspects of their culture. For so long, their culture was their only lifeline, the sole connection between Kurrina and their lost creche. The situation isn't helped by Lenos, who fully abandoned githyanki culture shortly after Jirresil's death.
